a TR from Botswana with many pictures, part one

Post by linne »

My husband has left me. He has gone to USA. This means that I have a little more time
for my self. And that and the fact that VIOL now has an off topic forum, where I can see that
people (flip-flop) has asked for suggestions about where to go, have inspired me to fulfil
a wish in an older topic:

If you have written a trip report about your African trip as you did with your Virgin Islands vacation I would love to read it.

Gerie

So here it is!

I promise that there will be more pictures than words. Hope that it's not only Gerie, who will enjoy seeing it.

Due to the many pictures I will split the topic up in parts, don't know yet how many.

And by the way- hubby should be back again Saturday.

THE PLANNING OF THE SAFARI

I had for a long time wished to go on a safari, but hb was sceptical of travelling in Africa.
But when we discussed how to celebrate my 60 years birthday, I insisted that I want to be together with elephants in Africa. OK hb said, but then we have to go on an arranged tour. He did not want us to travel alone. So I start to look after a trip and found one, which fulfilled what we wanted:

- a safari without too many tourist around us (in Botswana there are less tourist than too example in South Africa or Kenya)
- where we could stay close to the nature
- with the chance to see many animals
- in different parts of Africa
- and being in a smaller group

The trip was a 10 days trip with CC Africa. and we were staying the following places:

Maun, a town near the Okavango delta and the starting point, from there a plain to

Nxabega Camp in the Okavanga Delta, after that in the plain again to

Kwai a part of Moremi National Park and still in the delta, then with a jeep to

Savuti in Chobe National Park , and after that in a jeep to another place in the National Park

Serondella, also in Chobe National Park, where I could celebrate my birthday. Last stop was

Victoria Falls in Zimbabve

Besides we decided to have some extra days for ourselves in Maun and Zimbabve.

Wow, Linne, those are amazing photos. I would love to go on a safari one day...John won't go, though. He is admantly opposed to camping. Maybe I'll convince him someday.

Looking forward to more!

MB - I thought the same thing when I read it, too.

Linne - Really enjoyed reading your report and your pictures are great. Oh, so many places to go and things to see! Too bad we can't travel all the time! Wish I could find a job that would pay me to do that.

Linne - I'm finally getting the time to read your reports! Love all the pictures! You really were "roughing it" out there in your tent! I'm now officially jealous! :D I wonder why all the trees are so flat on top?

To California girl

One of the trees is the famous Baobab tree. I think you only can find it in Africa. A Baobab tree can be more than 1000 years old. It's very flat in the top, and it's said that God made a mistake, when he created this tree, it's also named the upside down tree.

Gorgeous! It is my dream to visit Africa someday - I've actually looked at Botswana and South Africa. Now that I have read your report, I am even more anxious! Thank you so much for sharing, Linne!
