Camera/Photo supplies?
Camera/Photo supplies?
I always hear about the good jewelry deals, but does anyone know if photography equipment is cheaper on the islands than the states? TIA!

I have heard yes & no. You have to know what your after. The one thing mentioned was about the warranty. You need to make sure that the warranty is good in the USA.
Sorry I don't have more info. Maybe someone else has more to offer.

You can get good deals at reputable shops - Boolchand's http://www.boolchand.com/phototour-stthomas.htm and Royal Caribbean http://www.royalcaribbean.vi/ come to mind (I got a great lens from Boolchand's this summer). Know what you want and the price and you should be fine.

Yea what Anthony said.
I bought our latest camera at Boolchand's on Main Street in May. Both companies have shops on Main Street and in Havensight. I paid about 2/3 what I would have had to give in the US. Know what things cost before you go, and be sure to let them know that you are not on a ship. That is your best barganing tool. With that they know that you could wait and go somewhere else later today or even later in the week. That did not get a better price, but it did get me extras (2G memory card etc.) that I didn't have to buy later. Remember, there is no sales tax. (Everyone in Delaware and Oregon are saying, "Big deal. We have that here.)
Don't hesitate to dicker with them.

The last time I bought a camera in May I used the verifyer technique to get away from one shop without buying so I could go to another shop to check their deal. I told him that I needed a little while with my wife before I paid this much money for a camera.
We then when down the street and could not find a better deal. We went back to the first guy about a half hour later and got serious with the negotiations.
