Hi! Its been awhile since we went there, but we rented a home right on the ocean and found it to be a quaint community! We enjoyed the direct access to the beach and the close proximity to Charleston, which was perfect for a little history break. Dolphins swam pretty close to shore and while the water wasn't near as clear as the Caribbean... it was still a nice beach. Traveling over the bridge to the island was very scenic and my husband enjoyed golfing on Hilton Head. Great seafood, too!

It has been about 8 years or so since I was there. It was very nice. Close enough to Charleston and there are plenty of great spots to hit. We also saw lots of Dolphins there. Enjoy it if you go! Barb

Hi Mary Beth,

I lived in Charleston from 2001-2004, so may be able to answer your questions...

My family has lived there about 7 years on the island. I live in Charlotte, NC, an visit there about once every two weeks to visit them, and for work, as my company has a division there. I'd love to share any thoughts, and answer any questions. It is BY FAR one of my most favorite beaches in NC/SC, so it is a great choice of a family beach to visit. Charleston is hard to top as well, and IOP's proximity to Charleston is definitely a plus.

Email me any questions...

Mary Beth,
I PM'd you as well. I love IOP. I spend as much time stateside as I can on either
James or Johns Island or
Jeckyll Island in GA...
It is not STJ but it is a close favorite.

The year my son graduated from the College of Charleston, we rented a house for the festivities and stayed on IOP - it was great. We used islandrealty.com also; they were very nice and easy to work with. Easy to get into town, and there's plenty close by if you need anything. Beautiful part of the beach, too.
