Trip Report #3 Day 5 Waterlemon, Coral Bay and Salt Pond

Trip Report #3 Day 5

Up early to go to Waterlemon. The kids did real good walking the trail in the morning.
We snorkeled starting on the right all around the cay. Mary and I started out first and saw a pretty big shark. It was about 4-5 feet long and it looked like a tiger shark. I didn’t get a picture and it was pretty far away (thank goodness!). Jim and Michael caught up and then we saw a pretty big turtle eating the sea grass.

We watched him for a while and then saw a few flounder.

Then we saw a lot of coral and fishes along the end of the cay.

Around the left side I started to go real slow and look hard for an octopus and I ended up seeing two of them. I got so close to one I could have touched it and it was a little scary.

We took a rest on beach on the cay and I made some sculptures with the rocks and coral like they do on Drunk Bay but I didn’t take any pictures of them. Then we snorkeled along the right side again and saw the flounder and turtle again and Mary and I saw another shark and this one looked a little bigger. Jim and Michael missed it again.

The hike back wasn’t as fun for the kids because it was hot.

Michael wanted to hike to the Annaberg ruins but Mary was so hot and Jim and I could take it or leave it so we thought we might come back another day (we never did). I told Michael I would just have to take him back to STJ soon so he could see the ruins. :D

I suggested that we head for Coral Bay. We went to Skinny Legs for lunch. Michael and I had the regular burger and it was very good and Jim had a blackened burger with Swiss. Mary had Mexican lasagna and I tasted it and it was really good too. The kids loved the shops there and they wanted to come back to them but we never did find the time.

We headed to Salt Pond Bay. Again the hike down wasn’t bad for the kids but the hike back wasn’t as pleasant.
We saw a stingray right away.
Image

I saw some trunkfish and I was trying to get close up pictures of coral and little fishes and got behind. Of course the rest of my family saw 2 giant spotted eagle rays and I didn’t. They said they were 5 feet across and 9 feet long with the tail!

We then went to Miss Lucy’s because Michael loves goats. Jim and I had a drink and the kids wanted ice cream but had to settle for desserts. Key lime cheesecake and chocolate hazelnut cake. I had a delicious rum punch and Jim had a beer as usual.

They loved the goats and fed them leaves and seagrapes. The waitress told us some of their names and showed the kids how to feed the baby and there was another goat that had to be hand fed because he was spoiled.

We then headed down Centerline road and stopped at the Bordeaux Mountain overlook by TuTu much and went in the shops and took a few pictures.

We went back to the villa and in the pool.

We had dinner at High Tide and it was good. I had blackened Mahi with mango salsa and Michael decided to take a picture.

Mary had lobster chowder and said it was good and I can’t remember what the boys had.

Then we went shopping again. Michael bought a pirate flag and some pirate coins.
To Woody’s for a bushwacker, to a few more shops and then walked home.

Bed early again.

AWESOME octopus shot! Really nice.

Don't tell cypressgirl about those sharks you saw! :D

great pics. I saw the octopus. It was our last full day and final snorkle. I was heading to the beach and was in knee deep water. I think he was feeding and didn't see me. I didn't know what it was and was right over him when he saw me. I thought it was some kind of coral. I don't know who was most frightened, him or me. It was awesome.

Wow! You guys saw everything the ocean had to offer!

I am WAY nervous about all these sea creatures  ! My daughter is on the verge of a nervous breakdown (as much as a 9 y.o. can muster)at the thought of seeing a shark, stingray or octopus! I guess Waterlemon is out of the question for us!

Another great day! I love the Octopus and Flounder shots. Too bad you missed the Spotted Eagles, they're my absolute fave!

If that really was a Tiger and I would have seen it, I would have FREAKED. They scare me. The Nurse I can handle, maybe even a Reef or Black Tip but keep those Tiger's away!!!

Dear LLBL - My wife was also very nervous about "all those sea creatures". But I reminded her that in the ocean, size matters. We are way bigger than most things and they think we're looking to eat THEM! For proof, try to get close to anything besides coral, and it will move away from you as fast as possible. I would be much more worried about stepping on a piece of broken glass or getting a sunburn than being attacked by anything in the water. Hope this helps.... Genral

Pia,
Come snorkeling with me in November with the 6 on the beach.

CG,
I asked my daughter if she wanted to go in November and she said she didn't want to go with all of those OLD ladies!

LLBL,
If my kids swam with all of those creatures, yours can too. The sea creatures are scared of us more than we are with them. Just don't let your daughter watch Jaws anytime soon! :D
