Oh Cypressgirl! Taking a spear gun into the home of the shark is akin to armed home invasion. How many people on here have to tell you they won’t bother you? Have you looked up the shark attack statistics for the USVI, no? Well it’s pretty nonexistent. Most shark species are now endangered because of fishing practices and for shark fin soup. It's too bad you cant appreciate their beauty. If you really want to worry about something, sea urchins would be a good one, mosquitoes with pathogens, drunk drivers on STJ, or slipping on rocks, all of these are much more dangerous than a shark. And don't worry, there are way more sharks that you don't see........watching you while you swim.............

MrB,
you're right i stand corrected. I was thinking backwards about it, as most are live bearer with some laying eggs.
ETA: Hardonyou, you do realize that most of this is tongue-in-cheek?
i don't think anybody here is advocating the mass slaughter of sharks.

I just love to stir up a good Mon. morning fight. I course I don't recommend the mass slaughter of sharks. If I'm that scared I can stay out of the water. I doubt they are going to follow me to my villa pool.
Now what about all those poor swordfish you guys eat? Arn't you ashamed of yourselves.
Hardonyou....Please lighten up!
Ksea....Not sure I'm liking the idea, but from what I can tell, I better expect a shark confrontation. If one charges me with his mouth wide open, is it ok to bop him on his nose with an otter box, or is that considered cruel and unusual punishment? Don't want to offend anyone here.

If I saw any of those around me while diving, it wouldn't have to kill me as I would drown! I freak out. Its what I do. This is why my husband often has me by the hand when we are snorkeling to steer me away from anything "scary". I love it, love the water, love to swim, love to see pretty things, but I freak easily. I have a very natural and I think healthy fear of the water and that which lives within it.
On land I am calm collected and in no need of handholding, but underwater is a whole different story!

Cypress,
The sharks will leave you alone. You'd better come snorkeling with me!
I was only slightly afraid when I was right above a sting ray (started thinking about Steve Irwin).
I probably could have gotten a better close up picture if I had dove down, but I was just a little afraid to get too close.

To all who think I need to lighten up, other people have made similar comments to Cypress girl, saying not to worry, I was jut trying to add my 2cents. And I furthered that with a tounge-in-cheek comment at the end of my post and included an emoticon for fun as well. I know I dont post as often as the rest of you, but I do have a sense of humor and was more trying to give some factual information about sharks for others who may be reading so that they might be more comfortable as well. I sorry you miss understood me. I will try in the future to only write posts that will be seen in a positive light as to not rock any boats, now if you'll excuse me I have puppies to eat.
