October visit

Post by Thinksnow »

Have been to St John in February, April and June. Wife wants to visit in mid October for our 25th Anniversary. How is the weather at that time of year? I have concerns about hurricane season. Also, are most of the restaurants open?
Thanks.

Have spent the last 5 out of 7 years in St. John during October we mainly go the end of the month to enjoy Halloween. we missed 1 year due to Hurricane Sandy, other than that October had been very good to us. as far as restaurants we stay in Coral Bay and all restaurants except shipwreck are usually open as are most in Cruz Bay.
Happy Planning!

While living there, only thing is more rain than usual. A good number of restaurants close in Sept/Oct, you can always find a list. It's quiet, less cruise ship folks, water still warm.

We love October, yes, there are some places that aren't open. Oh well,

Yes, there are SO MANY LESS PEOPLE, giving any activity you choose to do more personalize. Last year I had a private scuba dive lesson at a group rate!

We've been to STJ a couple times in June, a couple times in July, many times in August, once in October, and once in November.

Our October trip was our most recent trip (in October of 2014). A hurricane came within about 80 miles of the island so the water got REALLY stirred up. The waves were big, which made trips to be beach difficult because we had our 1 and 4 year old with us so we had to watch them like hawks. The waves were big enough to knock the adults over, they could have easily drowned our kids. It was stressful being at the beach because we had to be so vigilant with the kids.

We also had the most obnoxious experience we've ever had with cruise ship passengers. We were at Trunk on our last day and a cruise ship passenger was told that he had to stop flying his drone camera over top of people. His girlfriend threw an absolute fit, screaming, swearing, stomping around the place...it was quite a scene!

So basically the moral of the story is, you never know what you're going to get! Any time of the year is a good time to be on STJ :)
