The airfare game

Post by nancyr84 »

Yes yet another post on airfare. We booked our Villa 18 months out for our June trip. I kept waiting for what I considered reasonable airfare , a Pittsburgh to STT , one connection. Well in December I finally booked at $550 . It was the highest we ever paid but we were going so I went for it. Several family members were considering coming but were not ready to commit. Well you guessed it! Same flight now over $800. I keep telling them it will probably come down but I have to admit I don't have a clue what determines what the cost of a flight will be. The US air flight we are on is about 2/3 full maybe less. Any ideas on this game we all play with the airlines ?

We've already booked our flight for the 18th out of norfolk. We use Orbitz and today's fares have come down a bit. Yeah, the airfare game is a pain.

I don't know if their routes work for you, but we saved $360 on our last two trips by booking with JetBlue, using Yapta (www.yapta.com) to monitor the fares for our flights, and then calling JetBlue when the fare drop was sizable and requesting that the drop in prices be deposited in our travel bank, to be applied against future flights. That is a really great policy.

All the best,

Same here, it is the largest individual cost of my trip that I have little to no control over. I can always find a villa available that suits the rest of my budget

Like Yapta we had great luck with www.kayak.com and put in your airports and dates and you will get a daily update (if ya sign up) We got our tkts in the mid $300's and that price has only been offered 1 day that I have seen since August. Luckily we jumped on it. Good luck hope it helps!

We booked our villa for June and now we are playing the airfare game. I have a $600 voucher on Delta because I bumped last year. The cheapest Delta airfare is over $1000 out of New Orleans Which is 3 hours from our home. My husband and the rest of our group can fly any airline. US Air is the cheapest out of New Orleans right now at around $600.00. New Orleans flights are always so much cheaper than our hometown airport. It is just crazy. But we do What it takes to Get to
