Virgin Gorda... First Visit-Part Four
Virgin Gorda... First Visit-Part Four
Sunday morning, November 3, began with a rainbow over the Baths.
Colorful sails brightened the scene:
The day was spent relaxing with rain, reading, rain, beach, rain, rinsing, and dinner at the Mineshaft Restaurant which is famous for great sunset viewing and a lively crowd. There was no sunset this day. We went anyway since we were close and wanted to eat.
Once more, we were the only diners… except for this cutie, who was one of the few I saw on Virgin Gorda.

November 4
The sun returned on Monday and we were ready to explore some beaches and mountains. The first beach was at Savannah Bay… a long span of very pretty, soft sand. Nice! Not much shade away from the parking area, but a few tiki huts here and there. I found it interesting that there is a large Machineel tree in the parking space… no warnings to not sit under it or eat the "apples" or "you will die!".
From this beach, 100 Pond Bay was clearly visible. I had seen the video for this new rental complex before the trip and it looked fabulous if luxury is your choice. From the beach and driving past it, I thought it was hideous!
This is not a sales pitch! There are some good suggestions of the expansive, beautiful views from this side of the island however.
We drove on toward Nail Bay peering out at gorgeous vistas over the water. Nail Bay Estates seems to be either up the steep hillside or down the steep hillside. We did not venture in either direction, but the views from anywhere there must be awesome! We also missed the ruins in this area. Some maps show this stretch of road as unpaved… it is concrete sections, but all paved.
Although we did not stop or dine at Nail Bay, this restaurant would be one I'd like to try... next time!

Passing by Hog Heaven we knew that we would come back there for lunch, but we journeyed on to Leverick Bay and took a look around. Somehow, I thought Leverick Bay was a town… it is really just a resort with some villas, I now think. There was very little activity, only a few people around and in the shops, most places seemed to be in the final stages of "getting ready" for "the season". This seemed to be the trend all over Virgin Gorda this first week in November.
Last night (11/18) two forumites who are on a Caribbean sail spent the night docked at this marina... they are off to Anegada today. Bon Voyage!!!
After a little stroll and a little shopping, we headed back up the mountain to Hog Heaven. This might be our favorite place for food, fun people, and views on this island!
The owner is a boat captain known as Blondie who liked pigs and seized the opportunity to raise some… the rest is history. We really did like his BBQ and we went back another time!
See what others are saying about Hog Heaven:

The rest of the day blurs… probably some beach, some reading, some eating in, some rain, some….

Re: Virgin Gorda... First Visit-Part Four
Thanks for posting your trip report to VG. It brings back fond memories of our wonderful trip to VG some years back. Its still on my list of places to go for a return visit. Hog Heaven is new from when we were there. The views look outstanding. Savannah Bay was so beautiful and had fabulous snorkeling. Enjoying your reports!
