Want to help STJ?

This is one smart kid and I will be making my donation today! If all of us here were to pitch in $50, we could easily fund irrigation for the field!
Come on, Let's help our little island!

Way to go Charlie for trying to make a difference - St John needs more young adults trying to make a change ..... but (personally) I think it is maybe not the best idea in the long run
They hold so many events at the field - carnival, concerts, dancing classrooms, wagapalooza etc and all involve erecting stages, seating, driving heavy tractor trailers across the field, lighting, 40' containers etc that it will be torn up in no time - not to mention the water that it will require (yes I'm sure it will be watered in the beginning but in a couple of years maybe not so much).
They should (IMO) consider using the artificial "grass" that they used for the field at the Gifft Hill school that still looks amazing (at least from a distance)

Re: Want to help STJ?
I just spoke to the foundation and they can only accept checks right now. They do need the $$$ ASAP to determine if they can install the irrigation so lets get moving!!
Send your check to:
St. John Community Foundation
PO Box 1020
St.John,VI 00831
In the memo line, write Wells Ball Field

I agree with Pia. Artificial turf is the way to go. Basically no maintenance and always looks green and beautiful. We have soccer fields on the mainland that are all going to turf, no one is building grass fields anymore.
