Bad info from US State Dept.?

Post by jp »

Our family of five applied for passports on March 20. Three of us are now showing up on the tracking site. Their tracking numbers are numerically close to each other. The other two haven't made it into the system yet.

I know we don't need passports to enter the USVI (flying from Miami) but my wife was born in a military hospital in Germany and has a State Dept. birth certificate. I have a copy but the original with a raised seal went with the passport application and that is my concern.

I called the state dept. today and was told not to worry as only photo id was required in our case. Does that sound right?

any helpful info greatly appreciated.

As I understand it, yes that's right. But it does not apply if you want to take a trip into the BVI's. That is where you'll need a passport.

When we presented our driver's licenses last Friday we were asked for birth certificates. We didn't argue, just pulled out the passports. I expect if we had made a point of it we could have gotten through with just drivers license. It worked for a bunch of our family in November.

The new rule is, STT is part of the US. The rules for STT are the same as for everywhere else. Drivers license is sufficient.
