Part 3, Grootpan, Kiddel, Miss Lucy's, Gibney and Trunk

Post by cindygad »

We headed to the other side and snorkeled Grootpan Bay but it was pretty rough so we went to Kiddel bay for our first time. It was much calmer and we could of snorkeled all the way to Grootpan if we would have had someone pick us up.

Grootpan Bay

I love all grooves and tunnels to dive down into

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 010034.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 010034.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 010036.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 010036.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 2122-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 2122-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 012127.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 012127.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

We usually pack lunches and decided to his Miss Lucy’s for lunch. Most of us had grouper ruben or cruchy grouper sandwich My daughter in law had Quiona avocado salad. The kids all raved on the lunch and rated it one of their favorites of the trip.

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 2227-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 2227-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

We headed to Gibney to chill out for the afternoon,

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 3885_o.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 3885_o.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Daughter in law Staci the kids enjoyed the swing.

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... C_0238.jpg" target="_blank"><img border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Gibney is one of my favorites to relax on in the afternoon!

Supper was at Lime in and the all you can eat shrimp on Wed for 26$ was a hit.

Thursday we were up early and went to Trunk to walk the beach for some exercise. From one end to the other is a 1/4th of a mile. We stayed here all day and read and relaxed.

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 2241-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 2241-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I feel so blessed to share our slice of paradise with our three kids.

I never feel like I am bothering the people there. We have always said Hi if they are out as we walk by. I like to go to the very end. It is so isolated there with a few people on the beach. You can easily snorkel over to Hawknest or snorkel the far right too if you want.

I'm loving your reports! I want to snorkel grootpan and kiddel this trip. I also plan to eat at Miss Lucy's again. I haven't been there since our first trip, and I really want to try the grouper reuben :D

Really enjoying the trip report, especially the part of Villa Bijou...for in about 12 days that is where we are going to be! Can you tell us more about the villa and show some more pictures? Which bedroom did you all stay in? Things like that.

Thanks again for the trip report, you are making us really anxious to get there!

Bert I have not did a villa report yet but I will give you a little recap. We used all 3 bed rooms because there were 6 of us. We got to the villa at 9 pm because of plane issues so excuse pictures because these are of later in week with lived in look.

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 8-Copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 8-Copy.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Beds were comfortable and air worked great in bedrooms.

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 012453.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 012453.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 012451.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 012451.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 5-Copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 5-Copy.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Loved cooking in kitchen, we cooked in every other night and most breakfasts

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 012460.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 012460.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Never watched tv. TV's in bedroom were also hooked to cable.

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 012459.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 012459.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Liked location of laundry it was easy to throw a load in without disturbing anyone. Located far right upper level off of living room.

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 012421.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 012421.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

stairs well lit to go to pool level and bedroom down there.

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 012426.jpg" target="_blank"><img border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Bedroom is where wooden blinds are shut

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 7-Copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 7-Copy.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

loved sitting on ledge talking.

<a href="http://s621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 9-Copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt29 ... 9-Copy.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

We ate grilled snacks at outside table but suppers at inside table. We never closed doors on upper level. There were 6 fans up there so never felt the need to close them and use air except in bedrooms.

Hope this helps if you have any other questions let me know. Really no negatives about villa.

There's a tire swing at Gibney?!? That's new since last year! Fun!
We, too, love Gibney! Maybe this year we'll snorkel over to Hawksnest. Never snorkeled Hawksnest, amazingly enough!
We've only been to Trunk once, and just to check it out - ie, no swimming / snorkeling / lounging. Did y'all get there before they starting charging the entrance fee? (Please remind me what time they start charging so we can plan accordingly! )
Thank you for these fabulous TR's!

The kids found the swing at Gibney I did not see it because we headed down to the end of beach right away.

As far as Trunk fee goes I am not sure what time they start charging. It says they open at 730 or 800. We got there at 0830 expecting to pay and no one was at the booth yet. It has such nice facilities there it is worth a fee. We took our lunch but we heard others say the chicken sandwich was good there. The kids went back out to get our cooler and they did check to make sure we had no glass in there

Thanks for the great trip reports. Making me evermore anxious to get to the island. It's always so nice when someone else enjoys St. John as much as I do.

Thanks for the villa pix! I like to hit Trunk early on a day when the cruise ships come in. I get a good place, relax and enjoy the water early, then watch the throngs come and go. It is better than TV. This year, we did not see the signs going in about the bottles, and luckily we hid our VI Mango Ale bottles well. For the rest of our trip we carried cans. Wish our fav. brew came in cans! What a waste of beer time!

Thanks for the extra pix and words about Bijou. It really does look nice, just like the pix on the web site. We've used Lisa in the past, and think she is just wonderful.

I meant to ask which bedroom you all stayed in, one of the upstairs or the downstairs bedroom?

Thanks again, and I'll be posting a trip report and villa review when we return.
