Never connected in San Juan before, but this year it was the cheapest (I think that's an oxymoron) flight. We change planes in San Juan to a Cape Air, cessna 402, (still under a United ticket). Wondering if anyone whose done this can comment on logistics. What about luggage? our ticketing didn't list any restrictions. Any language problem in PR? No spanish spoken by us. How many passengers on the Cessna 402? Anything else we should know? Trip 7 for us, but never to PR.

We've connected through San Juan several times. The plane is a 10 seater (not great for someone who is nervous flying) Its a quick flight and once I relaxed it was beautiful. They transfered our luggage fine with no problems and there was no language problem, everyone spoke english. Its not a flight that I would do all of the time due to my flying fear (which is better on larger planes) but if the end result is a vacation on St. John I'll gladly suffer through it.

We've done it several times and the Cape Air flight scares me to death but I just keep chanting PAINKILLER, PAINKILLER, PAINKILLER and I'm okay!

I don't have a flying fear as I grew up with a dad who was a private pilot. I was more concerned with the stresses of logistics. Your info has helped with that, Thanks.

We did a cape air connection a couple of times. Our luggage was left behind once due to weight restrictions. It might not be a bad idea to cross pack and plan for a luggage delay.
i am looking a cape flights for our winter trip and their website does outline restrictions. I dont know how passengers originating on another airline are treated as it relates to luggage.

Just booked our flights. Woke up this morning and low and behold, AA lowered their ORD to SJU to 668.00 rt for two. BOOKED IT!! Then booked our Cape Air. We will leave San Juan around 9:30am, on ST Thomas a little after 10:00am. Coming back we get to sleep in a little, catch the 1:00 Cape back to San Juan then on to ORD. We will see how it goes...

I flew Cape Air to STT from SJU in January and was pleasantly surprised!! I actually arrived early to SJU and was able to get on an earlier flight with no trouble, even though the lady at the counter acted like she was trying to squeeze me on an oversold airbus! Be prepared to tell them how much you weigh! It was just myself the pilot and one other traveler. Smooth as glass and an incredible view!! I would do it again in a heartbeat!
