We are returning this Feb after a ten year break- back in the 1980's and 90's the ATM's were not reliable-are they now? I have gotten out of the habit of bringing travelers' checks with us on trips. Will the food markets take credit cards? Thanks.

Yes, pretty reliable. However, be sure to let your bank know that you will be in the VI or it using it there could trigger an anti-fraud flag. I had my card temporarily shut down last trip by the banks fraud unit.

It’s probably been about 5 years since the last time the machine was empty when we tried to get cash, but we always go in the off-season, I don’t know about the high season. We’ve never had problems with the ATM in the Marketplace near Star Fish Market.
Most grocery stores take credit cards, as do most restaurants.
