First Night on Island
We're about 3 weeks away from our 6th trip to St. John, and I was just thinking about that wonderful first night on island, when at the end of the long travel day we just sit out on the villa deck with a long, cool drink and look up at the stars in the night sky and soak in that "we're finally back!" feeling. The sky is different down there, much darker and with so many more stars visible. I just love the first night!! I can hardly wait to get back....
What does everyone else do on the first night? Go out or stay at the villa?

first night
I know just what you mean when you are there for the first night and you think"we are finally back". I have always felt that way on St John. It's like coming home after being away for a long time. It's a great feeling.
The first night we are usually tired so we go to the beach bar for a simple dinner and sit at those wonderful plastic tables right on the beach! Who could ask for anything more!!!!

We usually arrive on Island around 4. Hubby drops me at Uncle Joe's and drives around looking for parking. We then take our BBQ up to the 1st lookout on North Shore Rd. and eat right there. It's probably the best meal of our entire trip, and where our "we're back" moment happens. Then we head to wherever we are staying and Hubby crashes from exhaustion. I am usually so excited I can't sleep. When I finally sleep I wake every hour or so hoping it's time to get up.

Our first afternoon and evening generally includes recover the bags from the ferry, rent the car, grocery shop, unpack at the villa, eat supper out and get some sleep.
I find that my first "we're back" moment happens when I walk through the door of the jet and look down those steps. The second happens when I take that giant stride off the boat and look around.

We are always very tired on arrival day. Typically we watch the sunset (if we get there in time!) from the deck with a glass of wine, then eat something very light--like cheese and crackers--and go to bed early.
Because we are bringing a group of guests with us, this year I am consdering having dinner delivered to the villa. Has anyone ever done this, and have a recommendation?

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
We hired Mathayom to cook for us this past trip and he was wonderful! He does gourmet in villa delivery too - here is his website: http://www.stjohncatering.com/services/ ... ivery.html.liamsaunt wrote:We are always very tired on arrival day.
