"ST. THOMAS - The Queen Mary 2, Cunard Line's luxury ocean liner, will be able to dock in the Virgin Islands for the first time on Friday, the cruise line decided Tuesday.
The all-but-finished dredging project at Crown Bay will enable the 2,620-passenger vessel to berth on the pier's south side for its already scheduled call. The 3,100-passenger Crown Princess will be shifted to Havensight.
In all previous visits to St. Thomas, the Queen Mary 2 dropped anchor in St. Thomas Harbor and brought passengers to the waterfront by tender.
The cruise line's marine division received final surveys Tuesday morning that show water depths around the Crown Bay dock are dredged sufficiently to accommodate the ship, then made the decision hours later, company executive Steve Nielsen said. Nielsen is vice-president of Caribbean and Atlantic shore operations for Princess Cruises and Cunard Line.
Docking the ship is expected to enable more passengers to disembark, he said - particularly the elderly and the physically disabled, who are less likely to come ashore in the small tender boats."

We've seen this puppy docked off of Hassel island (I think that's right) next to STT. At the time, that was the closest it could get to STT. It is a MONSTROSITY.
If you get a chance to check it out while visiting I highly recommend it. If anything you can just say that you got to see it up close and personal. It truly is a wonder to behold.
