Estate Concorida Eco-Tent Kitchen

Post by jenxogirl »

Hi all,

We are staying in the eco-tents at Estate Concordia for the first time and I am wondering if anyone can tell exactly what type of cooking ammenities are there...
The site desribes a small refrigerator but will I be able to cook meals here?

Has anyone seen them in person?

Thank you!

Yes you can cook there as long as you don't need too many things going at once. They have outdoor charcoal grills near the tents as well. They have pots and pans and other cooking utensils available. They also provide a small cooler for you to use when going to the beach. The gallon water jugs are for fetching drinking water from nearby spigots.

Here is the kitchen area in one of the P tents (closest to the Drunk Bay side)

All the tents I've been in have a similar layout.

I thought I read somewhere that they do not allow use of the outdoor grills anymore because of fire hazard. If you think you might want to grill something, I'd probably call Concordia to double check that.

good idea. I didn't try grilling last time I was there. Whether or not you can grill might depend on the amount of rain they've had.

So the person in the photo is doing something on top of like a chest-trype refrigerator? Am I seeing that correctly?

Is there a place for frozen items?

Thanks so much for the photo--it helps a ton!

yeah that is the fridge/freezer. There is a little freezer section in it, but I'm not sure how good it is for freezing things. I found it hard to regulate the temperature. Everything was either really cold and close to freezing, or more fridge like.

Also keep in mind that it's run on solar power so if you run the lights and fans in the tent too much at night, the fridge could potentially shut off in the early morning hours. I had that happen the first two nights I was there last year. It was very hot and humid out with no breeze (June) so we ran the little fans all night. Woke up to a fridge that wouldn't turn on until the solar panels had enough sunlight.

I was there for a month this past September as a volunteer worker. Some tents have the chest coolers that are pictured. Others are updated with mini fridges like you would have in a college dorm room. Those have a small freezer section and they run on DC power. The chest refrigerators are solar powered. I would request the mini fridge. There is a two-burner propane stove. The water coming out of the sink that you see is not potable. There are taps on the boardwalks for drinking water/cooking. The grills that used to be on the boardwalks have all been removed, so they are not even an option.

You will have pots, pans, plates, bowls, plastic glasses and utensils. All adequate for whipping up a quick meal. Be warned that you should keep ALL of your food in the plastic bin they provide. I had a critter eat through my peanut butter jar, which I thought was safe. Also be sure to clean up your dishes right away.

Concordia is kind of a mix between camping and a cottage. They are great for the money and you can't beat the views! I love it there, but don't expect luxury.
