Don't get too excited. My question relates to self-tanners! So in my attempt to prevent TOO much sun damage I have recently been investigating self-tanning lotions. The good news - they aren't ORANGE as they were in the 90s. The bad news - I find they smell varying degrees of funky.

I tried the Jergens and found it a bit too smelly for me. I just got the Neutrogena and while it doesn't smell as much, it still has a slight smell though I like it otherwise.

So this gets Flip-Flop thinking in 20 years are they gonna find out that the chemicals in self-tanners are worse for you than the sun and I'll die from using them. (How's that for a glimpse in to Flip-Flop's trainwreck of thought?)

So I wonder have any of you gals (or fellas) found a self-tanner that gives a good, subtle glow that isn't on the stinky side?

Being my natural pasty white self is NOT an option!

I have not tried any of the bottled lotions other than the "glo" one (I think it might be Jergens) to keep up my tan after I got it. BUT, I have tried the spray on booth at the tanning salon. I had good luck with that, for at least getting a good base. If you have more questions, let me know- I don't want to blab on and on if you're not interested.

Flip-Flop -- I, too, did the Jergens thing. Loved the color it imparted (very subtle), but it was stinky. Although not as bad as the straight self-tanners. I'm now hooked on the Loreal Sublime Glow in dark. It is also a moisturing lotion/subtle self-tanner. Great color. Not nearly as stinky, although there is a a slight scent. But you have to be looking for it.

I am not a big fan of self tanners (which is why I'll probably look like a big old raisin in about 10 more years). I do use the Neutrogena Build-a-Tan For Faces, though (even though I am blissfully mindless with regard to skin cancer, I am worried about wrinkles - how's that for stupid?). It doesn't smell, but that doesn't really help the rest of your body, now does it?

I can not stand the smell of self-tanners. I have been spray tanned at my local Aveeda beauty salon and it did not smell. It will last for about 5 days to a week unless you go in chlorinated pool.
I have a friend that likes the Chanel self-tanner, it is expensive though, she says it doesnt smell. Maybe go to your local department store and do some sample patches on your arm to see which works best and smells the least. I think with self-tanners the more you spend the better it probably is.

I found a product at Beauty Brands called Tan Towels. They come in a foil pouch and are like a wet wipe. They have no odor, not sticky, dry in seconds, and give a very nice even tan with about 2 applications. I love them and will use them all summer instead of getting more sun damage.

That product sounds neat. Where can I get it? I have never used self tanners. I always went for the sun. I am now afraid that I might start to look like a raisin soon. I guess better late than never to start using them.

Another raisin here! I just know I'm gonna pay one of these days, but I pale out in the winter so bad. I used the Jergens last winter and it was okay. They have those towels that Cypressgirl is talking about at the tanning salon...yep, I'm bad, been going there to get some color before I hit STJ on Sunday. And flip-flop, you got me to chuckling talking about the "orange" tanners back in the day...boy, some horror stories there!

There is a web site www.tantowel.com I have never found a cream I was happy with. Some even made me itch. But these little things are great!! You don't have to wait more than a minute or two to get dressed.
