I am just curious as to what the airfare runs? Contemplating planning a trip next year but have no idea what airfare would be. I know during March we have paid from $360 to $500 non stop from Boston

last year i think we paid about 750 per ticket--it may have been 800 (i am trying to put it out of my mind)---the year before it was about the same (though i flew spirit and we had one ticket on miles and had to buy two--my spirit ticket was the top of their price line as well--
it's very hard to find deals around christmas!!!!!
however, if you have a fleible schedule and can travel a couple of days BEFORE the traditional time of the school break and then return after new years by a couple days you willl probably find it siginificantly less expensive

I can rent your house in Maine to defray your costs :)

We were price shopping Xmas vs Presidents Week and found $750 to $1,000 for both weeks out of BOS in 2009 and 2010.

Good advice from Loria to leave before school gets out. You can easily save a couple hundred dollars by flying off peak.

Thanks for the replies..you confirmed what I already thought!! It will probably be way out of our price range but it doesn't hurt to dream, right?

MB-if we go, the house is yours. Just beware, Santa leaves LOTS of trucks for my boys so it will look like a construction site :D

We flew in Christmas day and I think the tickets were around $3000 for the 5 of us. Honestly, I like St. John better in the summer months, cheaper, warmer an less crowded....not that we didnt have a good time but just sayin

Amyee, OUCH!! We are a family of 5 also so no matter which way you look at it, tickets are expensive! That is exactly what I am afraid of!! We usually travel at the end of March and love it. Thanks for the input, I will definitely keep your post resonating in my head when the decision is being made :D

Hi FinsUp. We've been to STJ twice over New Years Eve, leaving the day after Christmas. I'm not sure our flight costs will be relevant, since we flew from Chicago, but the flights definitely seemed higher than off season.

You've probably also noticed the holiday prices for most villas are higher, too: higher than regular in-season rates and sometimes more than twice the off-season rates. I'd love to go in the off-season but we're tied to school schedules and my DH's business schedule (he owns a small biz.) But I will say it's pretty wonderful to leave the cold and snow behind and celebrate the New Year on STJ!

Thanks Chicagoans!! I totally hear you. I am so torn as to if I even want to try it..I definitely have mixed emotions. If we do go at Christmas, March will be more than likely out of the question. We enjoy March so much, it's hard to give that up, for even just one year. But spending New Years on STJ sounds so enticing..oh such decisions! Thanks for your input.. I appreciate it :D
