Trip Report - Day 2 - Where's the Beach?

Post by pswlrw »

Day 2 – Where’s the beach?

We’ve made a plan that today will be our family’s Thanksgiving. My brother’s fiancé is going to go to our villa and cook our dinner and insists that we all go out and enjoy the day! How awesome is she!

We get up a bit slowly after drinking our way from New England, enjoy the pool, and have breakfast on the deck. Not a bad breakfast view!

As is our tradition, we head out to Trunk on our first day beach. I get to enjoy my cousin Patrice’s newbie reaction to the amazing views as we make our way to Trunk Bay.

Wait … what? The beach is closed. We walk down and see that the north swells are up and there is NO beach. Bummer. Let’s try Hawksnest – nope same thing. Well, by now it’s almost 2 and we want to be back to the villa by 5 to help with the dinner prep so we end up at … the Westin. Now, I would never go there normally and in retrospect we should have just headed out to Maho, but I have to say that only on St. John is this considered a bad beach.

Greg and Marci head to Woodys for Happy Hour while the rest of us head back to help with the dinner prep. After swimming, showering and swilling some pre-dinner cocktails, the kids get back from Woodys and we all sit down to enjoy an amazing Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. Before dinner, my brother makes a lovely birthday toast and everyone starts singing Happy Birthday. Just as the song is ending, a bedroom door opens and out walks … MY DAUGHTER LAUREN!!!!! My nephew and his wife had flown her down as my birthday present!!!!!! I am tearing up just writing this because now, everything was PERFECT and I was so touched at all the planning everyone went through to make this birthday trip so special for me. Lots of tears and hugs and laughter as we enjoyed a fabulous dinner and then the Patriots add to the magic with a decisive win!

It’s a day I will never forget.

Wow, what a great present. I even teared up a little - I have a college daughter named Lauren as well so I'll chalk it up to that.

GraysonDave - yeah, let's say that

Tracy - My brother and his fiance actually live on St. John. They are so wonderful to us during our visits - they made us dinner 3 times the week we were there.

I teared up just reading that - I mean, to watch football, on Thanksgiving, on STJ!!

:) Just kidding!!! That is an amazing story - I read the first report where you didn't have your daughter with you from college and felt sad for you...now, happy!
