A new webcam

Post by lprof »

Recently, author Homer Hickam installed a webcam at his Carolina Ridge villa, "Skyridge", and it provides yet another view of the Virgin Islands. Enjoy!

This is a super webcam!! I like that it's not just still shots, but more live action so you can see the boats moving along. Thanks for the link! Now in my favs!

Roughly, the webcam is in Upper Carolina (north of Coral Bay) looking towards Tortola.

So is the tall hill on the right West end of Tortola, or is that still part of St. John?

Homer Hickam knows exactly where the webcam is pointed... from his blog he says:

"The biggest island seen is Tortola, British Virgin Islands. The twin peaks in front are part of the National Park in St. John. There's actually an island called Frenchman's Cay between the peaks and Tortola although it tends to blend in. Behind Frenchman's Cay is a rather large settlement and marina called Soper's Hole which is invisible to us from our Skyridge perch, except for its lights. That little triangle of blue to the left of Frenchman's Cay is often where the big yachts of the rich and famous dock. Keep your eye out for Sean Connery or maybe even Tiger Woods!"

This is how I answered the above question before seeing Mr Hickam's description.
The two peaks in foreground are St John and across the water is BVI... and the tall hill is on Tortola. The waterway is Sir Francis Drake Channel.

I have not been to the Skyridge villa (just passing on the info  ), but I took this pic from a villa higher on Carolina Ridge that shows much the same area as on the map about where "Tortola" is written.

Hope I have not confused everyone... including myself.

Edited to include the Homer Hickam quote on 12/10/10.

Web cam locked up my Explorer twice. So I gave up on it. Will try again when I am not running other websites.

I have never gotten to see this webcam. All I get is this when I click on the link:

Oops! Internet Explorer could not connect to 208.84.193.88:8888
Suggestions:
•Try reloading the page
•Search on Google:

I tried to Google the webcam but nothing comes up. What am I missing?

I am sorry. I use a Mac with Firefox and that could be the difference.

You might try linking from Mr Hickam's blog...

And, no, I am not the "Linda" in his life.

I hope there is a way to get you connected to that daily view from Upper Carolina! It's a good one!
