Pierce's BBQ has been there forever. It is very good-very popular with the locals. Can't remember what the "base" of their BBQ is...I have been in NC so long I forget!

Now the problem is I can't remember the name of the road. I never went there, my dad always picked it up.

Did I never answer the questions you had about boating? If so, I am really sorry, although I don't think my parents would know that much about that sort of thing anymore.

Definitely Pierces! It is off the beaten path, but worth the detour.

http://www.pierces.com/

If you like good sandwiches hit the Cheese Shop -
http://www.cheeseshopwilliamsburg.com/ in Merchant's Square on Duke of Gloucester St in the colonial area (combo w/ house on french is my personal favorite - turkey and virginia (salty) ham). It is always crowded, don't be intimidated they move fast.

So yummy!

Wow, Pierces has a website?! I just looked and see it was opened in 1971...two years after my family moved to Williamsburg. I'm feeling OLD!

It used to be considered way out in the boonies...not anymore.

Hey Jim, glad Flip & djmom both suggested it, that's the one I was telling you about. I moved to this area in 1971 and remember what a little hole in the wall it was. It still is, just a "bigger" hole in the wall now.
Flip, you and I should do a "promotional" tour for The Cheese Shop :):)  See you shortly Jim!

jan - Do you remember when the cheese shop was TINY and over by W&M's Brown Hall/near the Baskin Robbins? Talk about TIGHT quarters. The "new" location is so much bigger!!!! More bread ends & house please. Mmmmmmmm so hungry!

I also ADORE the Chickahominy House. Miss Melinda's special everytime. Best chocolate pie in the world!!! My mama started taking me there when I was about 6 or so and I HATED IT. Now its not a trip to W'burg w/o a stop.

Flip I didn't know The Cheese Shop then. I only discovered it 3 or 4 years ago. Those bread ends are soooo good :)
I'm with you on The Old Chickahomony House! I LOVE their ham biscuits, but never have had the chocolate pie. I'm thinking that Mom & I need to have lunch there.....SOON :):)

Flip-I remember the Cheese Shop then! I used to work at the Christmas Shop when I was in HS and college. Will never forget the smell of the place...heavenly.

For some reason we didn't go to the Chickhominy House. I really don't know why except maybe we just couldn't afford breakfast out...? Or maybe my parents went without us!
