Is this fesible or just plain stupid

Post by nancyr84 »

I just booked our villa for next June for 7 nights. Last year we stayed on St John for 7 and Virgin Gorda for 3. What I thought it would be nice to stay on St John another 3 nights somewhere else on the island for a different experience. Caneel is too expensive I think and we really like our villas. Has anyone waited until the last minute say a month out and booked a villa for a few nights. With so many Villas on the island seems like you could find a place you like at the last minute, off season in June.

Uhhhh, that's the only way I book. Last minute. Best deals that way. I just booked yesterday for our trip in 10 days. I eye availability calendars for the places I want to stay until the last minute. Takes flexibility on where you want to stay, but in low season, it's not hard to find a place...

If you are flexible, last minute is the way to go. We just got back from a 2 week trip wher we got a fabulous 5 BR place for the 2 of us for one heck of a deal (we booked it on a Wednesday, and arrived that same Saturday). This year, at least, there seemed to be tons of availability.

Same here - we did last minute and got a great deal for this coming week. I will definitely do it again in the future - especially for June.

The only thing I think may make it a little harder is the short stay. I don't know how much people will be willing to work with you on price for a 3 night stay because there is a lot of work that goes into "turn over" of a villa. I was looking into a villa when I had my staycation honeymoon in October and I had a hard time finding a place that would let me stay 3 nights. Anyone else have luck on a last minute short booking???

The 3-night minimum might be a problem, even though it is the last minute and off season.

You could try Grande Bay, Estate Lindholm or St. John Inn.

Or Sailview. I think they have a two night minimum. For that matter, you could book Sailview now, because their nightly rate is like any other "last minute" rate.

How much of a discount did you get booking at the last minute (within 2 weeks)? When we looked last year, agencies were only offering us 15 - 20% within 30 days.
