A Very Busy Day 6 from Bert

Day 6 started out much like the other days, deciding what beach to go to today? We decided on another beautiful beach Honeymoon. We drove to Caneel, not really knowing what to expect with the ten dollar parking thing, so here’s the scoop. They give you a white ticket when you enter. You go to the beach. You come back and spend at least $10.00 at one of the various places, bar, resturant, gift shop…then take the white paper you got at the front gate, the reciept, and give it to the person at the front desk, they give you a blue ticket, and you get out without paying them the $10.00.

O.K. now that that is cleared up….on to the beach it is truly beautiful:

Lots of good snorkeling toward the left side - going toward Saloman:

Also lots of good noodling. I guess we have to have a system to rate beaches for laying out, snorkeling and noodling!

Of course the major drawback to Honeymoon is, St. Thomas has discovered it! They truck yellow vested one horn butt fish over by the boat load! Good thing is, they don’t stay long:

While we were there, a group of people (locals) were right beside us making a camp and setting up cooking, and looking like they were having a great time. I stopped by to tell them whatever it was they were cooking smelled wonderful, and they said they were having a reunion for the 1980 graduating class of the high school in Red Hook. They then proceeded to give us each the best Johnnie cake we’ve had! And they offered for us to stay and eat with them, home cooked stewed chicken, the works! We declined, but we ate the johnnie cakes and went on our way. They were really wonderful people…a shout out to the class of 1980!

We left, went by the Tap Room for their new drink, Party in Your Mouth, more about that later, then back to the villa to clean up for the BB gathering. Here is a picture of (from front to back) Crystal, Stephanie, me, Bonnie and Rhonda.

I have more photos, but I couldn’t download them all. I will post them later.

We then decided to eat dinner at Rhumb Lines

Wonderful Pad Thai, Cuban Pork Mojo, and great drinks

Well, it’s off to bed, we’ve had a long day, and tomorrow is just a few winks away.

Later,

Awesome day! I smiled at the shout-out to the Class of '80. I wonder if I could organize my 30 yr reunion at Honeymoon?

Hi Bert~

Another great day it seems to have been! I loved your photo of Honeymoon Beach.

Can someone tell me...how do you decide what beautiful beach to go to on your first day?!!! :?

Our family of four's first trip is coming up very soon. I had thought I would want to go to Trunk Bay the first day but I know we are going to be up really late our first night on STJ so may have trouble getting up early to beat the crowds so I am starting to rethink the first day beach! Too many to choose from!

Take care Bert and keep posting the great reports and photos! 8)

islandjo2010, you are wise to consider skipping Trunk as a first day thing, IMO. Trunk is very special, but I try to read the St. Thomas cruise ship schedule in advance to pick what day has no cruise ships in. That becomes our Trunk Bay day. It seems that every time I break my rule, I'm distracted and disappointed by the cruise ship excursioners they bring over in droves to Trunk. I'm a former cruiser myself, that's how we discovered STJ. I just hope that your first impressions of Trunk are magnificent. It really is that beautiful. We try to go early on our trunk Bay day each time. If you can get there by 7:30am or so, there's no charge by the Park service.

Hey Pia, small Island, huh? I wish we could have connected too. You all could have had some of the best Johnnie Cakes ever!

Next time, I'm going to just walk up to our beach neighbors and ask...

What a great day, Bert! Isn't it great how friendly everyone is and how easy it is to strike up conversation? Nice! I love doing that on vacation especially.

Can I just tell you your reports have zapped all of my motivation to work?

We leave in two weeks and I have spent the past two days at work shopping for a new camera lens, camera case, comparing back packs, thinking about where we are going to eat/drink and so on and it is all Bert's fault!

Honeymoon always makes for a great beach day. And yum on those thai pad noodles at Rhumblines. Can't wait for tomorrow's report. Ali~
