Hmmm, forum leader Anthony is now listing his address as Florence, Italy. Is there a connection? :?:

Hi Betty, welcome. That is the Ponte alla Caraia looking east up the Arno with the Ponte a Santa Trinita (often noted as the "most beautiful bridge in the world") in the background. I rode my bike over the Ponte alla Caraia just this afternoon.

If you are interested in Florence at all or thinking of visiting please check this out:

Wow Anthony, You really do live in Florence! I don't know where I got the idea you lived in St Thomas? I also LOVE Italy! If I ever win the Lottery, I will have homes, in Maine, St John and probably somewhere on the Amalfi Coast.

Anthony - We will be in Italy for the first two weeks in April. We are going to spend two nights in Florence and are having trouble finding a hotel less than $450 a night - any suggestions?

The two times we have been to Florence we stayed at Hotel La Scaletta - http://www.lascaletta.com/ - after a friend that used to go all of the time recommended it.

It is in easy walking distance to Ponte Vecchio and the Piazza Della Signoria. It's nothing fancy by any means, but we were just looking for a place to crash. It is clean and the people that ran it were VERY nice. Both times going to Rome, we have spent two nights in Florence.

There is a review of it on www.frommers.com.

We were just talking about going back last night; I hope ya'll have a wonderful time!

This La Scaletta mentioned here looks okay actually and that is a great price. Hotels here are notoriously small, noisy, and on the expensive side. Their map http://www.hotellascaletta.it/mappa.cfm makes it look like it is right on Via Guicciardini - that is a very busy street actually and is really "tourist alley" if you know what I mean. Depending on your style you may want something a little more tucked away.

This place is right around the corner from us and seems nice - it is on the river and in a great location: http://www.hotel-balestri.it/news/20/20.HTM

My wife put a list together for places near Santa Croce for some people coming to see us last year:

<a href="http://www.florence-journal.com/florenc ... tml</b></a>

And check out <a href="http://www.florence-journal.com/florenc ... ere</b></a> - they have some really good prices.

That is enough to get started![/list]

Yeah...wow! I don't know what else to say! Beautiful. How were the people there? I have always wanted to take a trip to Italy but have not done so because Americans are not treated very well in Europe. :?
