Booked for Peter Island - some questions

Greetings! We are booked on Peter Island in the BVIs for June to celebrate our anniversary (bid through Luxury Link). I thought I would ask this forum some questions regarding Peter Island since there seems to be many well-traveled people.
If anyone has stayed on PI, I would love to hear about your experience. I have read a lot of reviews on-line and talked to a friend who stayed there when he was selling exercise equipment to resorts.
I have a question about appropriate attire in the nice restaurant for those who have visited there. We have been going to very casual places (STJ and VG) for quite a few years and haven't had a need to bring dressy clothes and "real shoes" for my husband.
The website says "In the Tradewinds dining and lounge areas after 6 p.m., ladies wear elegant casual clothing, while gentlemen wear collared shirts and slacks, however, jeans, tennis shoes, and open toed shoes are not appropriate for men's evening wear. Sport coats and ties and cocktail dresses are optional."
My husband loves to wear his Hawaiian style shirts and has some that are nicer - silk and toned down pattern. Would these be considered as a "collared shirt" or does he need to bring regular button up the front collared shirts? PI said the casual restaurant on the beach will be open some nights for dinner, and we can wear shorts there.
Regarding "ladies wear elegant casual clothing", I have some nice cotton summer long dresses. I was trying to decide if long dresses are (1) in style this year, and (2) necessary for PI, or just my knee length summer dresses would be appropriate. I'm not sure exactly what the combination of "elegant" and "casual" means.
We are still trying to decide where to stay for 5 days on Tortola prior to going to PI. Thinking about Icis Villas, based on some info from RickG a while back. The forum is so helpful with info.
Thanks for any info!
