maho parking lot

Sounds like STJ is approaching the point where Yogi Berra would say " Nobody goes there anymore , it is just too crowded!"

Side with Hugo?!?!-
Aren't we all on the same side when it comes down to it?
I'm not the type of person to ruffle anyones feathers, whatsoever.
"Lost in translation...-"
Probably.
Sorry to seem defensive, since that's how I was evidently perceived.
I obviously don't live there, but am bummed by watching the development rise more, & more with each trip.
If anything, the positive may be that the small stretch of road on Maho might be safer for anyone travelling/driving past & through those soothing groves & hollows along the bay.
Beats me...
I work nights, Hugo. Please don't take me the wrong way. I'm often at my wits end by the time I make it to the computer.
Smiles-

Exit I would still come to your little island if every one of them was like Trunk on cruise days. I would lay there, look around and think remember when we had this beach to ourselves. But then we go to Myrtle in the summer and enjoy it  Those beaches you have are just that darn gorgeous. I feel for ya buddy but it amazes me it has not been developed more than it has been. As someone else said can you imagine what it would be like without Mr Rockefeller.

Ok, many of of us are feeling a little grumpy in high season. Perhaps you are right, the parking lot will attract more people regularly, but in my experience, if people want to go somewhere, increasingly, they will. With the number of villas and the number of rental cars, they all have to go to some beach... Maybe some of that distress could be directed toward the developments that put all those cars here.
Where am I going in such a hurry? To all the places you would need to go, if you lived here. I'm not talking about congestion, I'm talking about people parked blocking lanes. I find this disrespectful. Maybe tourists are outnumbering residents by 3 to 1, maybe it all seems like a fantasy to some..but...

NO NO NO...don't go to Francis. Stay at Maho and enjoy the beach there. You won't like Francis. It's just too quiet and calm there. Stay away! 8)

This may seem somewhat ironic shortly, but the reason we prefer Moho to Francis is that you can't see the development at Peter Bay from Maho.

I quit reading Terry's thread on the OT forum when you went after me over there, now I can't post my opinions here without you doing it again!

YOU KNOW I said I wasn't aiming my comments at anyone! Yet you say you say you resent what I said. Well too effing bad! I wasn't talking to you! You have completely ruined this forum for me.

Sorry my forum friends, but except for the Food Porn thread, I will not be posting on this forum any more, it's just not worth it to me to get beat up every time I say something.
Sure you will CG. Eveybody gets annoyed sometimes and remember this is just a forum. It's not worth it.

In general, I think alot of us are destroying our planet and STJ is becomming the reality of that.

i just pushed 5 inches of slush around in a sleet storm because it's going to freeze into concrete by the morning...as tragic as it is watching the erosion of gorgeous little stjohn right before our eyes, i have to agree with capnkirk, a bad day on stjohn is still better than a good just about anywhere else.

We are not long timers in regards to St. John....only found it in 2004! (but we sure know a good thing when we find one....making 5th trip there in one week from today) but we have to say we were amazed at how beautiful the North Shore Beaches were......and more than anything......absolutely amazed that there were not a ton of people on them!

That was St. John to us....that we could be sitting on a beautiful beach with no one else around..(Jumbie, Gibney, Denis, Little Cinnamon,etc..) Heavenly!!!!! almost too good to be true!

There truly is no place like it in the world! I guess we just have to realize that St. John is just too beautiful and perfect to keep a secret anymore!

So every year from now on the one absolute in our family is a trip to St. John in Feb!!!!

Drink it up!

jayseadee wrote:Sorry, CG, but I also took a bit of offense from your comments -

To me, when you say "we", it means me, too. And I haven't parked where I shouldn't drove on the wrong side of the road, and definitely not drunk or drinking. I am probably more courteous to folks when I'm on St. John than in my own neighborhood.

Just because I (or soxfan or anyone else) take exception with your post, doesn't mean you should stop posting. Some words are just taken the wrong way, doesn't mean they shouldn't have been said.

I enjoy Maho and having only traveled in the slow season, I never experienced the situation described. Parking lots for 50 cars will certainly ensure that Maho will become much more crowded - not sure anyone will enjoy that.
Well said jayseadee.

I do believe that having cars parked well off the roadway and the beach will make it safer and more asthetically pleasing (if that is possible). Face it, the people visiting the island will find a way to make it to the beach. I do not believe it will add to the people on island but will relieve congestion on a popular section of North Shore road. Just do it so that it doesn't add a scab on the landscape.

I suppose I missed the conversation about a North Shore shuttle. I would be for that in a heartbeat if it would help to maintain the beauty that remains. I could think of nothing better than being able to hike from the smoothie stand down to Leinster, on to Waterlemon, over to Francis, have lunch at Maho, catch a shuttle to Hawksnest, snorkel over to Little Hawksnest or Gibney, Catch a shuttle to town and catch a Vitran back to the smoothie stand and walk back to the villa. I would love to be able to use only my feet and public transport on StJ for my stay.

Now Sox don't go gettin all political on us now

Man I would love to see a shuttle on North Shore. I could save some good change if they had one.
But I can see why they don't, would cost alot of good jobs for the locals.
