Nice work!
I'm pretty handy but can't do tile that well, and I suspect it's because my last name doesnt end with a vowel.

I have to say that I was really glad we chose a "natural" looking porcelain tile. It's far more forgiving and gives you a bit more fudge room rather than more uniform tile.

It also helps to be working with the large 12" tile.

I did all the measuring and hubby did the cutting. We went ahead and got a decent wet saw with laser and this has made a huge difference.

It's been a labor of love let me tell you and if your marriage isn't on absolutely SOLID ground before you begin a project like this I would urge folks not to attempt it. Paying someone else to do it is cheaper than a divorce lawyer.

Fortunately Mr. Gromit and I are a GREAT team and we've just been plugging away. At this point though we just want to FINISH!!!

Us too - did that a yr ago.
The natural looking porcelain rules, is easy to take care of, and is not slippery.

Seal the grout a week after it dries, then once a year. Keep a spray bottle filled with an ounce or so of bleach and the rest water to spray down the lower tiles after you are done showering and you'll avoid mold.

Are you going to do the "baseboard" tile? Glad we did - adds a nice finish.

I really like what you did. We want to do something similar in our master bath. I took lots of pictures at the Philly Sofitel and at a place we stayed in Watkins Glen that both had that large, natural tile look through out the entire bathroom.

@JMQ-- nicely done. and GREAT tips! and yeah we've done the tile base molding. Love it.

@PA Girl-- I don't know yet. The shower curtain honestly works fine for our set up. But I'm seriously thinking about it. We'll see.....

Really great job!!

We originally had just 1 bath, but we extended a room and added a Master Bath and I just love it!

We also have a double shower (we seem to be on the same time schedule), so that works out great.

You're gonna love it!

Oh no we are doing EVERYTHING ourselves!

See all those #'s all over the walls? I call it bathroom renovation by #'s. I number everything as we go so i can keep track of where stuff belongs -- we even mapped out the wonderboard that way. This was critical especially once we started cutting tile! I mark the wall and the tile with the same number or letter so i know where it should be placed.

If anyone starts to take stuff down 20 years from now they are going to be like -- "These people were # freaks!"

ok, i am jealous....you guys did that yourself!? for 4k? it's beautiful..... did you redo the floorplan of the original bath or keep things pretty much the same ? Such nice work! might i call you for advice if i can...we are so not handy.....

@Loria-- we left the plumbing where it is so there was no cost there.

Hubby did the electrical-- added three recessed lights (he could crawl up into the attic to do this tho so this was fairly easy. He also moved a wall outlet and hooked up with wiring so that when we turn the recessed light on over the shower the fan would come on. The other switch controls the other recessed light and the light over the sink.

Here's the new light-- sorry for the crappy pic but when I turned it on the iPhone photo looked awful:

It's not really hard stuff but if hubby didn't have some experience with electrical work I would have subbed that out.

The key is to take the time to think things through and the internet is a great resource for info-- this was especially handy when it came time to pour the concrete for the shower base. You can't always trust the directions on the box!!

Oh and here's Gromit-- poor little guy has had to put up with all the construction!

Here he's giving me the "Mommy... Aren't you done YET?" look...
