Dark Side of Punkin Chunkin!

Post by JT »

I wasn't able to make the Punkin Chunkin Festival this year due to schedule conflicts, but I thought I'd show you this rather scary clip from 1994. Thankfully no was hurt, but they banned PVC barrels after this! .

BTW, they are getting closer and closer to the Holy Grail of shooting a pumpkin over a mile out of an air powered cannon.
Nutty hobby? I think so. If you get 1st place, all you get is a cheesy trophy and, but importantly to the participants, bragging rights. The festival is drawing over 70000 spectators, all proceeds go to charity, and these nut jobs spend an awful lot of their own money and time making these things. It's a great party though, in Lower Slower Delaware.

There was show on this last night...but we missed it. Trying to find out if it will aired again. The whole thing looks like a hoot.

Punkin Chunkin was on the Science Channel yesterday, and it'll be repeated on Wed. Dec. 2nd at 9 pm. There's a show airing ahead of it at 8 pm, called "Road to Punkin Chunkin" which sort of gives you a history & background of punkin chunkin.

There was a new design trebuchet this time which releases the pumpkin from the center of the arm and flings it really far! I loves me some punkin chunkin! :D

Serious discussion prior to the Chunk..."Will Cubans surpass white pumpkins as ammo of choice?"
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

Hey, Chet, funny that you should post that link, as Chunkin Up and Mack Daddy are the two guns that I'm associated with, not to mention the video that you linked to was taken at Butler's Orchard and the owners of that farm are friends of mine, too!

I took this pic of both Chunkers a couple of years agoat MacIntosh Reality's annual party. The targets in the distance are a speed boat, a car on top another car and a murel painted on 3/4 inch plywood.

There was not much left of any of them at day's end.
