Jeep needed?

Post by chriscartman »

I'll be on STJ the beginning of Jan. and I'm staying at Tamarind. Is it a good idea to rent a Jeep or to use bus to go to Coral Bay and taxis to go to North Shore beaches?

jeep rental

I would strongly recommend renting a jeep, we have been to SJ many times and have always rented from Conrads Car Rental never any problems. 8)

Definitely rent a Jeep. It can be very tough to get a taxi back from many of the beaches.

You'll be happy if you rent a jeep. It opens up so many options for you. I however don't recommend Sutton's. We're using Courtesy this time...very friendly service and hopefully the car will be great too.

You can walk to Frank Bay, Salomon Bay and Honeymoon Bay from the Tamarind. Taxis will do for a couple of days for the North Shore, but I would grab a Jeep for a couple of days to hit Coral Bay and explore a bit. It really depends on your budget and how long you'll be there.

Rent a jeep. And, contrary to the previous poster,I strongly recommend Conrad Sutton. We always have used Conrad Sutton and always will. Great people, well maintained jeeps and you can park in their lot when you come into town...which is very helpful, given the parking situation in Cruz Bay.

i suggest Paris - they're the cheapest on the island to rent from because they always have discounts. we used them last year, no problems whatsoever. the jeep was brand new with about 6K miles. they'll pick you up from the ferry but unfortunately they don't drop you off at the dock when you turn the jeep. i didn't mind - gave us one more stroll through town before we had to leave!

Ditto on Conrad Sutton car rental. Been using them for many, many years. Great parking spot when downtown.

Chris,
See if they will let ya rent a jeep just for a couple of days, if you do not want it all week.
As I told ya, you can park behind Tamarind at night and you park at Conrad if you rent from him free while you are hanging with Kenny at Quiet Mon.:)

Rent a Jeep. You will enjoy the freedom.

I know there are many people who have good experiences with Conrad and I am happy you did. I also know that we are not alone having had a bad experience with him. As one example, I returned to pick up my Jeep one lunch time and could not have it. He had taken it apart so he could use our Jeep's good parts to try to repair another Jeep he had in his lot. We waited an hour for him to finish what he was doing. The final insult was when he acted like I had screwed up his day by taking the car out. :P I've heard of rent cars being stripped while they are parked, but I've never hear of the rental agency doing it during the rental period. Never again! There are too many other companies in CB.

I had rented from Paris before and I did get a ride back to the ferry. My concern is that I am arriving on a Sunday and not sure if I will be able to get on island at a reasonable time as I am flying US Scareways. Also since it's in season my concern is that I will have to rent for a week.
