Rare Sighting in New England

I mean besides the country music festival!!

Spotted this juvenile Bald Eagle behind my house Sunday afternoon. Very, very rare on Cape Ann. Spotted ANOTHER, larger juvenile the day before at Good Harbor Beach. Life long birders are telling me that hasn't happened in their lifetime. Cool!!

I know! It was absolutely thrilling to see that bird take flight. Holy moley though....The neighbors need to keep their cats and small dogs in.

sounds like you have/will have nesting in your area--that is totally cool --until they turn in to seagulls......

Those birds are amazing. We get them here twice a year, like clock-work. There is a tree, right on the edge of our lake, that they perch on during their migration north in the Spring and South in the Fall.

This last Spring, there were only two and they stayed for just a couple of days.

We DID NOT let the dog out on his line in the back yard. Those eagles could easily have snatched him.

Amazing creatures, those. So, so beautiful.

Last year we saw a full grown bald eagle soar across route nine in Natick. It was awesome! John almost drove off the road.

We have quite a few on the lakes by my cottage in northren WI it is so neat to see them pick fish out of the water. Been know to stun a small fish and toss it out of the boat and have them come down and pick it up

CaliGirl, don't know if they'll nest. I sure hope so. The problem for them here right now is that they like to fish and because we had such a cold spring the water is not yet warm enough for surface fish. I was told that Stripers are usually here by now but the water is still too cold for them. Meanwhile it looks like the Eagles have developed an appetite for crows and possibly gulls.

Ruth, the one in the tree appeared to be about 30 inches tall but the one at Good Harbor Beach was between 36 and 40 inches tall.....and they are only a year old. I don't know when they stop growing but apparently their heads don't turn white until they are 4-5 years old. It's so exciting!!
