Was that taken from the Coral Bay side? If so I know one is Hansen. If it's from the other side then one is Haulover.

Yes, I guess you could say the Coral Bay side. It was taken on the way toward Norman Island. I think you're right about Haulover, but I'm not sure which one it is. The others??? I just don't know. :)

Then Haulover is the one in the middle. Newfound is to the left and Mennebeck is to the right according to the map on vinow.com..

Hmmmm, this looks like it was taken way out past East End looking back, like from Flanigan. These beaches here -

At first I thought Steve S. was right, but the more I looked, the less right it was.
Oddly enough, I think the photo got flipped horizontally, and this isn't East End, but the south shore from Lagoon Point to Ram Head. LeDuck, and maybe Flannagan as well, were blocking the view of the hill west of John's Folly with all the houses. In this backwards scenario, your #1 is Lagoon Point, #2 is Friis Bay/ Hard Labor, # 3 is Sabbat Point/John's Folly where the huge condo like villas are now; # 4 is John's Folly, #5 is Drunk Bay. The unmistakeable profiles of Minna Hill and Ram Head, which should be on the left, are what tipped me off. You were very close to Norman Island and East End, but you were looking west.....

Thanks Hugo, but the photo was not flipped. It's East End all right.

Which way are we looking at the East End?
Looking North/NW from Flanagan or looking West/SW from Drake Channel or looking East/NE from Coral Bay?

As pictured, Haulover Bay South is left of the end of land near #1

#1 - Limetree Cove
#2 - Hansen Bay/Beach
#3 - Long Bay
#4 - Pond Bay
#5 - Privateer Bay

Geezzz jmq... you made me get out a map! I guess you'd say from Flanagan Island. We were headed toward Norman Island at the time. I think Steve S nailed it as to location. Look at that straight road in the middle of the satellite image, then look at my picture and you can see it's the same road.

OK, so I got obsessive about this, because it simply didn't work as EAst End. But I had to admit it didn't work as John's folly either. If the road was the one on Nancy Hill, in the Dreekets subdivision, there were too many houses on the left, and not nearly enough on the right, and what was that point on the right? NOT Privateer. If the road was the uppermost part of the Privateer subdivision, you shouldn't have been able to see more than one house on the left, and again, that point doesn't exist .But there is an island in the foreground....I've been on boats and foot around the circumference of St. John so many times, I quickly decided it wasn't on St. John.
SO, where is it, you ask?
East End......Jost Van Dyke.
Spot on, with a glimpse of St. thomas on the left, and Great Tobago looking almost connected on the far right. Sandy Spit is actually the beach at the left middle, and Green Cay and Little Jost are in there too. Sandy Cay is just out of the picture on the left. Someday, I'll figure out how to put the Google Earth pictures in here, but trust me, it works.

Here's an image from Google Earth Pro looking at the east end of JVD. Looks like you may be correct Hugo. Any more wild geese you want chased down CG?

jmq - your picture looks right... I can see that road going up the hill. But my pic is of STJ not JVD. I know that for a fact. jmq - in your pic, what's that separate island on the right? Little Jost?

I'll post the larger picture tonight when I get home from work and maybe that'll help define where I was when I took it.

Thanks everyone... this has been kinda' fun! :)
