Long Distance Sail Boat

Post by Mary L »

Hi, I am interested in a day sail with Long Distance, I have never done a day sail, so I just have a few questions. My boyfriend does not have a passport so we can't go to the BVI, so I saw this boat and liked it. We will be staying in Coral Bay. Has anyone here gone out with them for the day? Where go you go and what about tipping, how much do you tip? Thanks.

Hi Mary

We went out on Long Distance a few weeks back and it was great. Since they don't do the BVIs, the focus is on the East End of STJ and, chop permitting, Flannagan's Is.

We didn't do Flannagan's (chop) but we did hit Pelican Rock and the mangroves near Water Creek. Algae Bloom aside, it was a great day on the water and very good snorkeling (despite limited visibility).

Rick, Robin and Kiwi were super hosts and we were very comfortable with them. I could not recommend them highly enough and we'll go out with them again the next time down.

i second what cleveland dave said, nicest people on the planet to sail with--
however, if you will be there in the summer you should make sure that they are there--I think they might head north.
< leaving on the 22nd of march...but too lame to figure out the ticker thing again!>

Agree they are a top-notch boat. Very laid back and they make you feel comfortable right off the bat. We'd be going out with them this June, except they do head north to Maine during the summer.

I have heard great things about Long Distance, but they are not on island all the time. We ended up sailing with Breath last time, and it was great. We just did a sunset sail, but it sounded like they would work with you on an itinerary for a day sail, so you wouldn't have to worry about the passport issue. Great crew. As far as tipping, there are a few threads around here that discuss that and I used that advice because I had never sailed before.

Hey Mary-- Your BF has time to get his passport - you've got almost 3 months. Wouldn't it be nice to have as many options as possible?

Just get a photo taken, download the forms and send everything in. Expedite it if you're worried.

That way he'll have it and you won;t ever have to be worried about it for another 10 years.

Just a thought...
*Another fine scatterbrained production
