Fires here tonight look like CA fires

Post by Terry »

We now are sympathetic with CA and their fires. We have fires "flowing" down the foothills here looking like lava flowing from the mountains. Winds are swirling at 60-100 MPH. Expensive houses in Niwot, CO, horse ranches all being evacuated. Horses being just let loose in hopes they don't run back toward the barns. We are watching the side of the foothills by our house about 10 miles away in a blaze.

Winds are not suppose to die down until midnight if then.

Northwest of the fire, Boulder County, closer to Longmont. We just went down to the lake and the whole side of the ridge is a blaze. We'll be okay, but some friends homes are in immediate danger.

Niwot H.S. is the evacuation center for now, but they are within miles of the fire.

Can you see it TeddySalad from your location?

What a mess.

No, can't see it from here, we're in NW Denver, pretty far away.

Hoping for the best for everyone.

Wow Terry! Those pictures look too familiar! You KNOW you have my attention on this one! I'll be watching and praying for the winds to die down and for no more homes to burn.

We've been watching the news on this one all night, too. We have some friends with property and structure in immediate danger, and we haven't heard from them since last night. We're praying and crossing fingers for all of you.

Be safe.

From the Boulder County website:
LAST PLANNED UPDATE 5:30 P.M.

The Emergency Operations Center is closing down at 6 p.m. tonight.

All remaining evacuations are rescinded effective 6:30 p.m. tonight.

The public information lines established for the event are no longer staffed. A recorded line with updated information can be accessed by calling 303-441-3835.

Fire crews will continue to monitor the fire throughout the night. Fire crews anticipate that the fire will be completely contained this evening by 8 p.m..

Hand crews will work until 7 p.m. tonight. Approximately 20 firefighters will stay on overnight to conduct active suppression and patrol work until 7 a.m. The Sheriff's Office anticipates that the task of mopping up the fire will begin tomorrow with 50 fire fighters, including two hand crews, from 7 a.m. until the work is finished.
