I'd love to join this thread, but we had a flood when our upstairs toilet broke a week and a half ago! So right now we are missing 1/4 of our livingroom ceiling, our toilet & flooring in the bathroom upstairs, the carpet in our bedroom and 2 feet of drywall from the floor up in the bathroom and part of our bedroom! We are sleeping on a futon in our computer room. No decorations for us this year.

Santa: All I want for Christmas is my house back!

Oh no, Margo, that is awful!! I hope Santa grants your wish!

Oh, what a drag Margo!! I hope you get a purty new bathroom toot sweet!

Finally, I have a couple of pics to share of our fireplace mantle and the tree. Every year we collect a new ornament or decoration, plus my folks have given us a few from when they were first married (51 years ago!) and also I have some of my grandmother's from the 1920's, then we have the kid's homemade ones from kindergarten on up so we have quite a collection and it's never the same twice. Here is our mantle and tree and some shots of some of my favorite ornaments.

I was too late to participate in the ornament exchange this year but I won't miss it next time. What a great idea.

From my home to yours I wish you all a beautiful and blessed holiday!

Thanks everyone for your sympathy! They put in the new drywall yesterday and said all might be done by Christmas! Yay!

Agent99 - I LOVE YOUR HOUSE!! It looks so cozy! I also love your tree and your awesome ornaments. Reminds me of the ornaments we had on our tree when I was a kid.

I had a star tree topper that I loved but after many years it just wasn't suitable for the tree any more. I've had a bow ever since but I keep looking! I like 99's ribbons coming down the tree. That's a nice idea. If I ever get a topper I might try that!

Thanks for the nice comments. Mary Beth, I used to have a star too but it had to be retired. I saw that angel and thought she deserved the spot. Please ignore the stain on the ceiling!

Agent99, I LOVE your crown and ceiling moulding! My husband and I are big fans of tall mouldings and have slowly been replacing every piece of trim in our house over the past 5+ years. Yours is awesome!

So sorry to hear about your trouble CA girl. I hope you will have it fixed soon and will be able to enjoy Christmas time.

Agent99, when I see the pics of your fireplace and your home, I feel, that the cosy room itself will bring you in good Christmas spirit. And I like the stories about your ornaments. Take care that your tree don't fall down, which has happened to others here :( .

Cowgirl, I wish we were closer as doing the repair work that you need is right up my alley these days. Here's hoping all goes well for y'awl.

linne, I really like the "pixy" that you posted on the first page. My wife is from pure Swedish stock and they have wonderful Christmas stories about the Tomtens, which your pixy reminded me of. Do the Danes have Tomten stories, too?

Well, I wish you were closer too! I'd love to be giving you the $4000 or $5000 this is all costing! Thank God for homeowner's insurance! The drywall is all done now and textured (including the ceiling) and the floors are ready for the new vinyl & carpet next week!

JT. I didn’t know the word ”tomten”, but according to google, it’s the same as the Danish word “nisse”. And yes we have a lot of “nisse” stories. The stories are about how “nisser” tease people, that you have to give them rice porridge every evening, which they love etc.. Here in December hubby and I nearly every evening with great pleasure see a TV program “ the Advent Calendar”. It’s about nisser, and it’s a program for children, but it’s very funny for grown up people too. The story takes place on St. Croix and in Greenland. We have been both places, so we try to see, if we can recognize some of it. Nisser (pixies) plays a big role in Christmas here in DK. I thought, it was common in USA too?

Hubby normally don’t comment, how I decorate the house for Christmas, but its’ a “must” for him that our little pixy from the beginning of December is placed in the same corner.

Growing up we always had his guy displayed. Is this like the Nisser?
