Did you get it before the app store took it off or can someone get it somewhere else....you know....for a "friend"

Here is the deal. It was a source added to cydia for jailbroken phones(not app store). Unfortunatly the source is no longer available, and I no longer have the .ipa ...it got boring after the first 5 min. I'll see if I can find another source, but your phone will need to be jailbroken to use it.

Can you explain what the term "Jailbroken phone" means, why you would do it, and how?

I'm thinking that you mean that in order to put Apps on that do not belong to Apple that you have to do something to your phone that will allow it. If this is the case, where do you find these Apps and how do you get them onto your phone?

Anyway....

Jailbreaking is loading a custom firmware that lets you load 3rd party software, and also use custom ringtones, wallpaper, icons, you name it....even change little unlock slider, or your signal bars!!

Since it is just a software chance, it's easy to undo, and reload the apple defaults.

When you jailbreak, the proccess puts 2 new programs on your phone...Cydia, and Installer. These are like the Appstore for 3rd party programs and Themes.

For example, here is a Futurama Theme loaded on my phone with Cydia....




About 85% of the stuff on Cydia and installer are Themes. They change your wallpaper, ringtones, mailtones smstones, icons, whatever. They are all controlled by a cool program called Winterboard. Think of it as a directory for phone themes. It lists all the themes you may have downloaded, and you can just pick the one you want to use. I am working on a very cool St. John Theme right now.

Other things you can find on cydia are mxtube (a prog to save youtube videos) Cycorder (take movies with your phone) a mobile safari plugin that lets you download from web pages....and loads of other stuff.

I know your not an uber geek, but I also know that any reasonable person understands what I just wrote. PM me for any help you need. I just wish this were still a GFT, but at least we got a good 3.5 months before it all fell apart.

After I replied I figured you had the app since your phone was jailbroke. I am an admitted geek, but not an ubergeek so not really sure I want to venture into a jailbroken iphone just yet. However that may change in the future. Thanks MrB.

I like the GroceryIQ app. I'm always forgetting grocery lists and end up going end to end in the store 3 or 4 times. Now I keep it updated on the iPhone and can clear as finish. I've got a list of things that I buy all the time as Favorites; these can easily be added the list. I also added "aisles" for Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, CVS, etc.

The Chef app is pretty good too. It easily transfers the ingredients to a shopping list; now if I can interface the 2 apps, I'm in business.

My question is this...if I go ahead and do this, will I lose info on my iPhone? For lack of a better reference, will it be like restoring an iPod where all information is lost?

One other thing that probably should be mentioned is that I suspect that if you jailbreak your iPhone, you will have voided any warranty or service plan.

Ok.

All you need to do is backup your phone. It does this on every sync, so no, you will lose nothing, then restore after you jailbreak.

If you take a jailbroken phone to the apple store for repair, then yes, you will have no warranty, BUT, again, it is a SOFTWARE change. All you would need to do is restore the factory software with Itunes, and you are back to all-apple. And, of you cannot restore the software because your phone is that messed up, then warranty is the least of your problems, and no one will know.

If you do jailbreak, and you are using windows, use quickpwn from the Apple Dev team ONLY!!! do not use any other method. If you cannot find Quickpwn, i will send it to you. When you do it, make sure not to use the Pwnapple logo,(you'll know it when you see it) stick with the apple logo. That way, if your phone IS messed up that bad (a rare occation indeed) and you are stuck on the bootscreen, it will be the apple, not the pwnapple.
