Like....
When people hold the door for each other.
The not quite popped kernels of popcorn at the bottom of the bowl.
(Ruth, don't read this next one, you will never look at me the same.)
The way mother hens sit on the ground and all of their babies get underneath and make that little peeping sound.
Paper and stationary.

Dislike
People yelling in anger.
When people stare at me blankly when I say "Good Morning"
Tea, of any kind.

LIKES:

Finding $20 in my pocket and remembering where it came from and laughing about it. (That one is for you, Pete)

Having to stop on the street to let the duck couple pass...it's spring and they are trying to find a good place to nest the eggs. It's so sweet.

Coming home and having the dog wag his tail and go crazy, even if I've been gone only a couple of hours.

The smell and feel of freshly washed sheets and towels. (I should do the laundry more)

The feeling of leaving the house, on a vacation, any vacation, with all of the anticipation of it all ahead of us.

Jumping in the lake with the kids on a summer day off of our pier at sunset, with all of our clothes on...just because.

Getting on the scale and thinking "okay, that's not bad."

Laughing so hard that my stomach hurts afterward.

Finding common ground with people you never expected to find common ground with.

DISLIKES:

Situations I cannot control (flight delays/cancellations/hotel mess ups/plans I wanted to be perfect but don't turn out that way)

Feeling like I've hurt someone's feelings without even knowing I have. Bleuch, I hate this one.

See above, getting my feelings hurt. I'm a wuss.

My kids not being happy/well adjusted. (This is not a dislike, this is a FEAR.)

That's enough of the dislikes, they are too depressing to keep typing. Can I go back to the likes?

I like that when I get to STJ, unlike other places that I've vacationed, it only takes me the time it takes to get the rental car together for me to be totally into the "live slow" mode. It's funny how you wish for weeks, or months, for the time to go faster so as you can be there, only to get there and wish for time to now stand still.

Dislikes:

Hey, I booked 2 weeks in STJ yesterday. I got no complaints!

Thumping music that keeps me up in the middle of the night ~ early morning (ah, NYC...)

Edible plant hearts like artichoke hearts, hearts of palm, etc.

Reading (in Japanese)
Writing (in Japanese)

Although I understand English enough to survive living here, don't understand it enough to truly enjoy reading books in the language. I can't help getting hung up with words that I don't know. I try not to look up every single unknown-to-me word but it's hard for me to ignore the temptation. If I look them up, my curiosity gets satisfied but my brain gets worn out. It really becomes "work", not "joy". Oh, well...
Aside from being my native language, I enjoy writing in Japanese - I think because it is a rather visual and almost idiographic language. Honestly, I'm glad that I learned Japanese first, and then English. I don't think I could've done it the other way around. I'm not saying learning English has been easy for me - it has NOT.

I LOVE that my daughter's first daily text to me is "I'm alive, mom!" Cause it answers my first qustion each morning. She knew I'd be worried and texts me every morning to tell me she's alive :)

I love getting together for a cup of coffee at any opportunity, with Jillian, to hear how life is giong for her and what she's plannin.

I loved the text she sent later today relayed that she'd gotten a 100% on a case study for a professor who is notoriously mean.... I know. I had her.

I loved that our medical team worked together very well today, to treat a patron who'd fallen 30 feet down an escalator, to immobilize her, identify a likely skull fracture, and keep her calm until the ambuance arrived. We done goooood!

I hate:
I hate banks, attorneys and FHA and Quicken Loans for the stress they're putting us through over this house. I am literally shaking,at times. We're supposed to close next Wednsday.

I love the new house wer'e supposed to move into in a couple of weeks. I'm going to love making it our home!

I love how Blaine has kept his cool and been patient with the ceaseless questions from Qucken. He's definitely the one who should be doing that part of this transaction.

I'm hopeful that in two weeks, we'll bemoving out of this mudhole and into our nice new brick Brady Bunch house.
