Finished reading "In the Company of Others" by Jan Karon. Her books always lift my spirits. After reading two rather lengthy books I am looking forward to something shorter.

While on vacation last week, I read:

Heat by Bill Buford. Buford is a journalist that quit to become a chef. Anyone who likes to cook and/or visit restaurants would probably like it. He goes to the extreme of moving to Italy for months at a time to learn to make pasta and butcher pigs.

The Secret Life of Lobster by Trevor Corson. Normally I really like nonfiction but I had to force myself to finish this one.

Hotel Babylon by Imogen Edwards-Jones and Anonymous. This was at the rental house. It is a story told by an employee of a Londen luxury hotel about all the wackiness that goes on at the hotel. It was really amusing. I read it in one sitting on the beach.

I also re-read A Trip to the Beach because we were on Anguilla. I know it gets mentioned over and over but it is a great beach read.

PA Girl, I really liked Heat. Are you going to do an Anguilla report? I hope so!

Right now I am reading the Evolution of Bruno Littlemore. It's...different.

Just finished Dinosaur Hunter by Homer Hickam. Maybe he'll be on Island when we are there and I can get him to autograph my copy of.....wait, it's on Kindle....darn Global Warming.....

I read that he lives on St. John at least part of the year...

I hope to work on a trip report this weekend. Dealing with my pictures is the hard part!

Going back to Michigan to visit I did not get much time to read. It took me nearly 3 weeks to finish one book! "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb is another great book if you enjoy this author as I do.

Two recent reads -

Pioneer Woman's Black Heels to Tractor Wheels by Ree Drumond. Much of the book is already on her blog but it was a fun read. Would be a good beach book.

The Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother - As a parent and the daughter of an immigrant, I found this book interesting. I can, however, see why mainstream American parents called for her head on a stick. (HUGE backlash when it was released)

"The Same Sweet Girls" by Cassandra King. Good book about women's friendships. Funny yet somewhat heartbreaking.

Right now I am almost finished with a biography of Cleopatra. It won the Pulitzer last year. It's OK, not great, in my opinion. The majority of it is speculation.

I downloaded Sarah Vowell's latest book to read next. It's about Hawaii. I really enjoy her dry sense of humor.

I enjoy her on This American Life but I haven't read any of her books yet.

I am a 1/3 through Keith Richard's autobiography. It is entertaining but the writing style sort of gives me a headache.

"Swimsuit" by James Patterson. It's been awhile since I've read one of his books.

Finally read "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. Can't wait to read the second book in the trilogy.

First off, I want to thank everyone for contributing to this thread. I often refer to it when I need something to read. I have a Kindle...and when I am out of ideas you guys always pull through! My last read from here was Someone Knows My Name. I really enjoyed this book, although, at times, I didn't know if I could handle it. The stuff with the kids just ripped at my heart.

I read the Hunger Games series and really love it. My son is 9.5 and I started to read books that he can also read. Partly to check content, but now I'm loving them myself. Loved the whole series!

Next I moved on to the Maze Runner series. Also really enjoyed them. The next one is out on Tuesday and I kinda can't wait to read it.

A long time ago, I read a book called The Uglies. I liked it quite a bit, and now I find that there are two more books in the series. Haven't read them yet, but ordered them for my son, so I will read them soon!

Thanks again for letting me know what books I should read!

My nephew loaned me the Hunger Games trilogy yesterday. I can't wait to read it!

Some recent reads: Blood, Bones, and Butter by Gabrielle Hamilton. It was OK, sometimes I found myself really disliking her though. She comes across as so bitter.

Right now I am reading the Paris Wife. It's...OK.

I heard Gabriella Hamilton on The Splendid Table talking about her childhood and it didn't sound like it would make for an uplifting book. I will put that one on my library (as in not for purchase) list.

I pushed through Keith Richard's Life. I thought it was just ok. Next on my list is Nothing to Envy about life in North Korea. I heard about it on NPR.
