Santa converted me from my Crackberry to an iPhone; he really disliked the sound quality of the Blackberry's and had read too many negative reviews of the new Storm.
So far, I like what I see, but was sooo overwhelmed by the number of available apps - this thread is a great starting point.
If anyone has found anything new, let us know.

i don't know if these have been mentioned, but since i first bought my iphone in august, the google feature now has voice recognition for searching, and the weather channel is great... (when i first got my phone i did not download these apps because they were useless)

Some Apps I've currently been rocking...
STARMAP
Self explanatory. It's a great star map. Uses the GPS to pick up your location, and of course the clock for time and date, (as you can see, the sun is up in this screenie) I now know 10 constellations by heart!!!
iPrint and
Print
iPrint is for printing pictures directly from your Iphone to an HP wireless or networked printer (it may work on usb connected printers thru a computer that is turned on, but I don't have one to test) Makes photo quality, borderless 4x6 prints.
Print is for printing everything else (well, it does pic too)
I'm learning to play the
Ocarina
The Weather Channel now has video forecasts
Panorama
Take panoramic pics with your Iphone. Does landscape and portrait. There are few pano apps....this one got the best review.
Ok, for this one,,,you have to be a REAL geek...(like me)
WiFiTouchpad
Ok...so, I have a Media Center. What that is is a computer hooked up to my TV that stores video and audio (that is the simple explanation...it's WAY more than that) It has 2 TB of storage, and holds my entire DVD collection, as well as many current TV shows (like a DVR). It has a remote, but that leaves out the keyboard part if i ever need it. WiFiTouchpad controls your cursor, and has a keyboard that you can use over your network. So, no more need for a remote, wireless mouse, or wireless keyboard. Geeky enuff for you???
Oh...and before you ask...all screenies are done by pressing the home and power key at the same time for 1 second. The scrennies are in your photos.

Number 1 app in the paid section (currently).....ifart
Its worth the 99cents for a good laugh. Might be childish (as a couple of my co-workers have said) but who said farts aren't funny?!

Thru my contacts with Apple, and after being a MAJOR pest, MrB has become a Beta Tester for Appstore Apps!!
See an app, but don't wanna shell out for it until you've got a trusted review? Pm me!!! I'll get it, and give you the straight dope!

Hey MrB....are you aware if there is an app that would allow me to record my cell phone conversations? By the way, that is perfectly legal here in Wisc.

Off the top of my head, no. Any of the voice record programs must be open and running to work, therefor you can't take a call and like record a speakerphone type convo.
I will look at some of the ones that I have not tried to see if they are able to record after the home key is pressed, but I think that is a condition of approval to the App store.
That being said, you could jailbreak the phone and remove the killswitch for the recording app you want to use, and it will work just fine.

I'm one of the cool kids NOW!! JUst picked up my iPhone today -- my 65 y/o mom got one too!!!
HUbby is beyond jealous and is counting the days until his contract with SPrint is up so he can get his.
I'm having to wrestle mine out of his hands at this point-- I think the light saber app put him over the edge... he's an uber tech geek so he's dying!
Thanks for the tips on the free apps. They're a great start.
I swear if I don't slow down I'm gonna fill 16 GB with apps alone!!!
only hiccup so far is getting it to sync with my contacts on my laptop (PC) -- but that shoud be an easy fix at the office MOnday.
I'm home with a cold and feeling kinda punky but my new phone is pretty good medicine!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the iPhone!!

So much for the last GFT!!
Anyway, I have not forgotten about you, Pete. I have tried 5 voice recording apps, and they all quit when a call comes in, or, if you start it after making a call (like in speaker mode for the call) the record function of the app no longer works.
After some research, I found that call recording is against the Apple Iphone SDK, so you will not see it in any approved apps in the Appstore, unless it sneaks thru (this has happened with netshare and other apps). If you see one that does....grab it quick. Once you buy an app from itunes (even posted and rejected apps) it's yours.
That being said, I will watch the Jailbroken apps to see if any Iphone Dev sees the opening and writes an app that does it.
EDIT: There is one Jailbroken app that does it, but it costs per minute to record, and records on their server, and not your iphone. Clearly not an option.

What about this:

I understand Apple will not allow it on the app store.
