soup?
Guess what we had for dinner last night? That's right, more soup! This one was an asian-kind of thing. I made it up as I went along. The base is chicken stock, mirin, and soy, and it also has shitake mushrooms, udon noodles, edamame, tons of garlic and ginger, a great big spoonful of sambal oleok, sriacha for spicy sweetness, chopped scallions and cilantro, and a poached egg on top. It was just what I was in the mood for. The things on the side are shitake mushroom-tofu rolls. I did not make them from scratch, they are from the Asian market. Photo:

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Thnx Sea-nile - I'd give my eye teeth!!
Thnx Ksea - it was your inspiration because you told me about spoonbread. I had never heard of it. Well, I had heard of spoonbread but never investigated it enough to know what it is. It is very addicting. I keep snitching a bit out of the dish that is left.

Corn Chowder Report:
Well, husband took the first spoonful and said " Oh my God! this is incredible"!!! Served it with a salad of baby romaine and a lemon vinegrette to cut the richness of the soup. Yum. sorry no pics, the Olympus busted at Xmas and hubby's Pentax is just too complicated for me.
Thanks Becky I'm sure it will become a staple in our house as well.
Happy warm tummy
