Isn't the term "Governor Barbie" based in sexual discrimination?

Frankly, ladies, I do have to say I am a little disappointed in you. Say that you feel Governor Palin does not have enough experience to be President for your own comfort level. That’s okay. Say Governor Palin does not have ideology that you are in agreement with. That’s okay too. Say that Governor Palin is simply someone you don’t like. Fine.

But to refer to a woman who has risen to the position of Governor as “Governor Barbie” is as sexist as any comment that you guys have told Soxfan was racist. To imply that she is vapid but attractive is simply ignorant, in my opinion. It is still difficult for a woman to get elected to office or be chosen for a traditionally male job. It is nearly impossible for a stupid woman to pull off that feat. You may not like her, she may not be an academic, but I doubt seriously that she is stupid. To imply that she is nothing more than a pretty face is belittling her accomplishments. Shame on you.

Maybe I am a little hypersensitive to this, but do you have any idea how many times I have heard myself called “Director Barbie?” More than I care to. I became a City Director at the age of 34. I was the youngest director ever appointed to my city government. The mean age for a Director when I was hired was 57. Only 3 out of 17 were female. I didn’t get the job because I was cute. I got it because I am intelligent, tough, qualified, and I know my business. Yet on a regular basis I have people like you refer to me as “Barbie” or “Buffy” or “Sweetie,” both male and female, and that completely belittles what I have accomplished through ability alone. I have a strong suspicion Governor Palin got her job the same way.

You might want to stop the belittling, name calling, and demeaning remarks and stick to facts if you want your comments to be taken seriously by anyone other than the people who already agree with you. Just a thought.

now now, soxfan--even you can admit that race has no legitmate place in questioning someone's fitnesss to serve, however, age and health history may very well--
McCain is old--and he has an unfortunate health history to boot. I think that the question of McCain's age and health is very important.
I am sure you do too and just don't want to admit it ! (that's my palin impression for ya--donchya think it's swell?)

That was pretty funny jmq, but I must have missed something...the part where they said it was Gov. Palin's other America. Or is that your take on it?

Maybe I should watch it again...

Obama has 1 house. McCain doesn't even know how many houses he has.

Bert - it was clearly the genesis for the clip. Stewart and his writers were really incensed at the that whole real America narrative. Every day last week they did a cutting segment like this and like the clip that Flip posted that was just a brutal rebuttal to that whole campaign "real America" narrative that Palin was pounding on that week. Funny as hell.

Here she is in action. The duties of the mayor of Wasilla are quite intense.

My hometown is larger than Wasilla and the mayor there cuts my mom's grass. Personally. I am just saying.

Ahhh, thanks for the explanation jmq. I guess that's why I don't watch those programs. I don't think entertainers should get into politics, I don't pay them for their political views. It was bad enough watching Jay Leno suck up to Michelle Obama on the Tonight show. I almost gagged. Or maybe he wants a position in government when he is replaced on the Tonight show......on second thought, way to go Jay!

Anyway, those people in a position of high visibility are just way too clever.....

Thanks again for the explanation of the video from Josh Stewart.

Let me ask again loria...You said 21% of all presidents don't serve out their term...Who was the last one who had to leave mid-term due to health or death (other than of course, assassination)?

Maybe it was mean of me to call Sarah Palin Governor Barbie. However, if her appearance weren't an issue, then why'd they go and violate the McCain-Feingold Act to give her a new wardrobe? She could wear her finest duds from the Wasilla consignment shop. I don't know where Obama, Biden and even McCain get their clothes, because I don't care. What I do know is that our country is in a serious financial crisis, and they spent $150,000 of our tax money to buy her clothes. There are plenty of inexpensive stores all across America where she could reasonably priced clothes that would look attractive. Yeah, the Obamas wear nice things. And John Kerry wore hand-made $400 ties. The difference was that neither of them bought them with my hard-earned tax money. We all gripe about paying too much in taxes, but then you defend Sarah Palin for using federal campaign funds for designer duds. That makes no sense.

I feel bad because as a woman I really want to like Sarah Palin. But the reality is this. As much as I'd love to see a woman in the White House, I want her to be there because she is the best woman for the job, not because she just happened to have ovaries and is young, pretty and the "All-American Gal." I should be mad at the Republican Party for taking advantage of Palin, but she knew she wasn't ready and said yes. Or she could've said yes, and then worked like hell to get up to speed. Instead, she avoids reporters and doesn't even know what the Vice President does.

And it makes me feel like she's not only a pawn, but that every woman is. Instead of breaking the glass ceiling, she's setting us all back light years. And McCain picked her just because he knew he couldn't win without soccer moms. And before you jump me, just remember I used to be a political strategist. I probably would've picked a woman too, but it probably would've been Olympia Snowe, Condoleezza Rice or even Elizabeth Hasselback (she's pretty, has brains and name recognition. I'm just not sure she's 35.)

I asked you not to call me a racist, and you continued to do so, Pete.

To me, being called a racist is the worst form of insult.
