Like a lot of others that I've read, I too check the forum once or twice a day, but don't usually have much to add. We've only been to St John once (Feb '08 ) but can't wait to get back there ... we definitely "get it". Maybe after a few more trips, we'll be more knowledgeable, but for now we'll do our research here and benefit from all you "wily St John veterans".

I've been here since 2002. Joined the old forum looking for first hand info on the VI's while trying to decide where to go for our 25th anniversary. SJ seemed to fit perfectly with what I was looking for - laid back, natural, hiking for DH, the water for me.
I did 100% of the planning and prep for the trip, surprised DH with the airline tickets, and off we went. He was skeptical about my plans, but...
We "got" it immediately. WE both tried snorkeling for the first time at HOneymoon and became instant addicts. Did Ram Head at susnset and hiked back in the moonlight of the full moon. It was heaven on earth, and on the walk of woe he promised me "one day, we'll be back."
That was October 2003. I'm still waiting. And living vicariously through your trip reports.

I to am also a longtime lurker, as I have been reading the forum almost daily for the past seven years. I have been to STJ five times, and are in the beginning stages of planning our next trip for March 2009. My wife thinks I have an internet girlfriend,
and she's right....it is the forum. Well I hope to be a more frequent poster and contributer. It feels great to be out of the closet!

I have been lurking for years and have gathered some great information from the regular posters. I must admit that I spend an incredible amount of researching any trip we take so I appreciate everybody's willingness to post their trip reports and comments. In just 19 days, we depart for our 5th trip to STJ, traveling with a group of 15 friends and family. Now, back to the shadows.

I lurked for a couple of years off and on and for about a year almost daily. When I was in St. John in March, I just couldn't stand it anymore and had to come out of hiding. I kept thinking of all the forum folks and their tales as I would go along on my vacation. I would be thinking of trip reports in my head as the days would go by and I just finally had to take the plunge and come out of lurkdom, so I did so sitting on the porch of Terrahawk, listening to the waves crash on Gibney. Aaaahhhh..... I can hear it now.
Hello, my name is Samantha and I am a lurker....the main reason being that I have not made it to St. John yet and don't have much input. I've been seriously planning a trip probably since last fall but as it got time to actually start booking I started a new job, which means no vacation time for awhile...then just when I thought I could book something my husband started a new job....again, no vacation time. So, I basically live vicariously through the forum and villa reviews and drive my husband nuts with daydreams about St. John.
Hopefully, we will somehow pull it all together and make it there in January/February of 09 - not really the time of year I would like to go but if I get there in January it'll be a great way to celebrate my birthday!
Thanks to all of the experts who post...you have provided me with more insight than any travel book could! Thanks!

Hey Sam... I feel your pain. The very same thing happened to me. Only I already had my trip booked when I got laid off because of the sub-prime mortgage thing. Don't worry... your husaband's vacation time will accrue quickly and the next thing you know, you'll be back from STJ and posting a trip report!
