Tattoos-- Who's got 'Em & Who Wants 'Em?
The wife and I have several. My entire family has at least some ink, my grandfather waited till he was 60 for his first, and now has 3.
Best pieces of advice;
Be absolutely sure of what you want.
Personalize it in some way so that you never, ever run into someone with the same thing.
Don't let any one tell you it's not going to hurt - it will.
Get it someplace you can conceal it if you want to.
I play in a "working" rock band and spend my summers riding a Harley. I'd be kicked out of one or the other without some ink! My employer on the other hand, had no idea I had a tattoo until he came to see my band - 8 months after I was hired!
Here's some pic's

A friend of mine sells medical devices and sometimes sits in on procedures. For some reason or other he was the area when a patient had an MRI. He said the guy was in excruciating pain because the ink in his tats had enough metal content that his skin was reacting - basically rising away from him where the tats were because of the magnetic pull. Then someone else said that you can't ever have an epidural or a spinal tap if you have a tramp stamp (lower back tat.)
I thought - yikes, 2 good reasons not to get a tattoo, and how many 20 somethings are ever going to consider that they might need these medical procedures someday? But I did some Googling and it seems like the ink with metal content is no longer used (like for a decade or more) and that the lower back tattoo is not a problem for epidurals etc. Just wondering if anyone knows more about this. Are these real considerations for anyone currently considering a tattoo? I'm not, but if I knew anyone who was considering something so permanent I'd want them to have all the right information.

I'm not a fan. However, my two oldest daughters have them. If I were 30 years younger, I suspect I might have at least one.

I got my tattoo last weekend. Here is the hummingbird that is a reminder of my Mom's love. My daughter drew the design. I love it. In March I will wear it proudly on the beaches of STT/STJ.Lindy wrote:I put off so many things during my childrearing years that I have a lot to pack in the next 20 or 30 years. Michigan - that hummingbird design sounds very pretty. You'll have to post a picture after you have it done.

I think this is a fun topic. I don't have one, never considered it, and no one in my family has one either. I mean NO one. Not even the war vets. My oldest daughter talked about one for a while, but is so glad she didn't. She thinks it's unique to be 22 and not have one. I do too! But it's a personal choice.

That's why I love Robin Williamsjimg20 wrote:Robin Williams talks about the idea of getting older and tats. He warns the young women that:
"If you are thinking about getting that cute tat of a sun rising out of the crack in your ass when you are 20, remenber this. When you are fifty it will look like an octopus eating a starfish."
