Who's holding off on vacation plans for 2009?
I want Jazz Fest - that's one of the 5 trips. We have to fit everything in and its hard to say where my business is going. We are busier than ever right now, but cautious.nothintolose wrote:Rickilicious - I hope your Jazz Fest plans aren't changing
Lets see how the week ends.

I would like to wean myself off my second job next year (although watching the evening news, I'm thinking my second job might wean me off of them before it's all said and done). So, I'm hesitant to make plans for next year. Although luckily I'm pretty easy to please where STJ is concerned, and I'm getting to be the master of a "budget" trip.
Airfare from Nashville has been outrageous, though. I never could get a decent flight under $800 bucks or so, so I am driving to Atlanta and flying on Spirit for $410.

By this time (waiting to leave in 2 weeks), I've usually got the next trip at least planned. But like everyone else, I've been bummed I'm not able to do that yet. And next year is a BIG birthday, so I at least wanted one trip. I'll keep hoping things get better - the idea of not being able to plan that next trip real soon is sooooo depressing.

I'm pretty much like Wolfhound. We're booked and committed for a May trip to STJ, which we likely would have had second thoughts about if we were planning now. We also take the family to Myrtle Beach every other year, and that's coming up in 2009 as well, so we'll go through with that one, too. I'm concerned for the economy of STJ, though, because any businesses that are operating near the edge might not make it through if tourism drops. I'm a freelancer, and business seems to have slowed some, so I appreciate their anxiety.
We are booked for Nov-08 & May-09, but of course its a timeshare so only thing is to shop for May-09 airfare. We have taken a big hit in the market over the last year and last couple days especially, however we are still in the market. We are both pretty young and have 20+ years until retirement. This is a hiccup in the grand scheme of things so until something drastic would happen to either of our jobs we are still vacationing in the VI's.

I'm impressed that so many of you guys already have detailed STJ trips planned.
We've promised our daughter a trip to Europe with her French class in the summer, and we'll make sure she goes. Bayer and I want to go along, but we don't know the cost yet. So, that's up in the air at least for the adults. I really need and want a STJ fix, too.
However, at this point, we're not making any definite plans other than the one for our daughter. I'm hoping and praying that the economy here and abroad improves sooner rather than later for everyone's sake.

Going in June of 2009, just bought plane tickets 2 weeks ago. We've already got the biggest expenses (lodging and transportation) paid for, so it's not like we still have to finance the entire trip. Even if we did, my disposable income is not affected by the market, so the last thing I would do is restrict spending and keep the market spiraling downward.
We've already committed to visit St. John in 2009 (May/June), so we are going. We would have thought twice about it if we were planning it now, though.
In our case, our annual trip to Japan to see my friends and family in 2009 might be in jeopardy. We've been set to go to Japan at the end of "this" year, but after that we'll have to see what we can do about making the trip again (unfortunately, it is not a cheap trip). It's not easy for me to think that my buddies & family in my home country are farther away than ever.
