Agree or Disagree: Trip Reports?

Welcome to the forum Deb! Congrats on de-lurking! I'm with everyone else who likes the personal insights you get in a trip report.
The travel magazines always tell about all the great things, but rarely do they tell you that the rooster in the woods next to your villa crows at 4 a.m. every morning, or that the pool is on the shady side of the house and never gets warm. They don't tell you that the meat at a local market doesn't look so great so bring your cooler full. Information like that is invaluable and you'll never read anything like that in Caribbean Travel & Life!

For what it's worth, my thoughts and reply to kzdallas for those who didn't read the entire thread,
kz, I don't know if it's just me but I think you kind of missed the point of the "Trip Reports". The folks who take the time to SHARE their experiences are in reality telling a story. Where better a place to start than at the beginning. No? I mean you are a professional writer so where do you start your stories, adds, editorials or whatever it may be that you write. At the beginning I would assume. At any rate there are times when I read a trip report, I can actually feel the excitment and anticipation building for the individual doing the writing. It is obvious to me that they are reliving the adventure through their report. Nothing annoying about that that I can see. And to the toe shots. No complaint there either. So for what it's worth to all you long posters out there, POST AWAY. And kz, these aren't homework assingments. You don't have to read them. Just click away and save yourself some stress. I do understand your point. I just don't agree with it.

Happens on forums periodically. Someone wanting to be the director or to whip the newcomers into shape. I kind of thrive on the anarchy of forums.
What I actually found most interesting was the science fiction aspect of the thing. People in one forum universe observing the goings on in a parallel forum universe and commenting on it and on the people who inhabit it. It gets complicated because some people exist in both universes, but may have a different identity in each one. And some people have now disclosed their identity in the parallel universe so that people from this universe will be able to recognize them if they meet in the other universe. It stretches the mind, which is good for me.

Like I said, I don't know this person and I have trouble navigating over there, but I just learned a very valuable lesson that has my BP up just a little: Sometimes people on the Internet just go a little ape-@#$% for no apparent reason. I am on another forum, and a long-time member just went off on everyone with absolutely no real reason to. I guess sometimes people just wake up on the wrong side of the bed.

Keep the TR's comin' folks- short, long, detailed, abbreviated- photos of toes, faces, plates of food, sunsets, donkeys- it's all good.
... and no one is forcing KZ to read every trip report. Her option is just a click away.

1. "Wow!!" Two exclamation points is for teenagers. Professional writers avoid exclamation points whenever possible.
2. "I like to think of Trip Adviser as a place to share advice about trips, not as a place to go for my "reading" enjoyment." It's "Advisor" - basic spelling error.
3. "Posting for me is a diversion at "break time."
What's the deal with all the quotation marks? Completely unnecessary.
4. "Anyway, just goes to show that the importance of everything seen, done, and felt is in the eye of the beholder." Eye of the beholder? You're okay with cliches?
