Ron, this is from Caravan Gallery's website:

INDIVIDUALLY HANDCRAFTED IN THE VIRGIN ISLANDS
These unique bracelets are individually handcrafted by local native jewelry designer and musician Whealan Massicott, in his tiny workshop in the Virgin Islands, IB Designs. An artist at heart, Whealan individually crafts and signs each piece with good feelings and great care.

The other day I was at work and this lady said to me, "That is such a beautiful bracelet. Please tell me you got it locally."

I told her, "No, I got it in the Caribbean."

She was pretty bummed about that, but went on and on about how much she liked it. I told her where to get them online, but I really can't imagine wanting one without the connection it brings. Of course, lots of people have them who won't ever get to St. John.

But I don't like to talk about that... :?

Teresa Rae that's nice to know but a purest would say it would be a stretch to call someone named Massicott a local native artist. If it were Sewer or Penn or Samuel, I would say great. But that name is Dominican or St Lucian.
Again it's nice to know they have someone doing it locally. Tom from Coral Bay Jewelry does it locally as well and is not from there. No problem!
I didn't know Caravan sold anything made locally as I remember Radha always taking her buying trips abroad. Guess I haven't been in there for a while!

When my husband first got his, a security guard in the airport told him he doesn't have to take it off, just unhook it. Try it, it works, I've tested it!!!!

I just tested this and it does work!

Not made on STJ but on STX, I purchased a gold one at Pattons and the jeweler replaced it for me - http://www.sonyaltd.com/

I have a two-tone Flip-Flop from Free Bird and a gold Heart from Palm Jewlers on my right arm. I also have a two-tone Anti-Hurricane from Palm Jewlers and a two-tone Hugs and Kisses from Sonya's on my left arm. I love all my bracelets and quality wise couldn't tell a difference.

I am a little partial to Palm Jewelers because of the fact that they had a jeweler on premise. She actually made both of my bracelets, my husbands, and both of my daughters. I love that fact that I can stand there and watch her make them. I KNEW they were made on STJ. With that being said, when we were there in April, we said good-bye to her as she left the island for Italy (I think it was Italy). I don't know if they replace her or not but that was a big selling point for me.

XOXO

As for airport security, I went through in May for the first time with mine, and the security screener told me not to worry about it when I undid it. He said that it wouldn't go off, but I told him that you all had told me to do it that way. Regardless, it didn't go off.

I got my j-hook from http://www.theislandhookbracelet.com/ & love it and found her measuring instructions very helpful.

My hubby got it for me after our last trip because I just couldn't wait until my next trip to get it.

I really like that one, Flip-Flop. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, and P.S. I found my polishing cloth last night, and we are good as new!

Thanks Lulu. I really like it. I, too, get lots of comments. Mostly people (in the know) say "Which Island?" ;)

I met a woman from St Criox on a site visit at the DC convention center a few months ago who noticed it right away. It's like a little shared secret. I never take mine off.

That's really pretty, FF. It looks brand new. How do you keep it so shiny? Thanks for the pic. :)

I don't even polish it. I just wear it all the time. Even in the pool and shower. Its got some scratches but I think sterling starts to turn when it sits in a jewelry box, none of the stuff I wear regularly gets dull. Maybe I just have super shine inducing sweat ;)

I bought my hook bracelet from Palm Jewelers during our first visit to St John two summers ago...it's the anti-hurricane bracelet and it's the only piece of jewelry that I wear every single day (I only take it off at night). Mine is the hammered style and it's silver with a gold hook and wrap.

I was just telling my husband the other day that I want to get another one in December (during our second visit) but I had no idea what I would get until coming across this thread this morning. I love the look of the Caravan Gallery "J" hook bracelet that Teresa_Rae posted so I think a visit to Caravan will be at the top of my list!!:D

The first time I went through security and forgot about my bracelet they told me to just unhook it (I think it was when we were leaving STT two summers ago). Works like a charm!!
