Maybe it's where I live, but a small, tasteful tattoo isn't a big deal any more. It's a different matter having a scorpion on your neck or an arm tattooed from wrist to shoulder or some crude prison-style tattoos. 30 or 40 years ago any tattoo was somewhat shocking, but now they've become pretty commonplace.

I'm kind of curious what the over/under is on the number of PMs Tracy has received since posting this subject.

I'm going to place the line at 5 and bet over.

Anyone else?

Tracy, we probably will need your help in confirming the number, if you don't mind.

I can't remember who it is, but it's someone on this forum... someone took a great picture of a sea turtle and someone else had it made into a painting. It's a GREAT picture. Anyone remember who's picture it was?

If you want it, get it. It is a personal decision and you should not worry about other people's opinions.

I would suggest talking to a tattoo artist about what you want and have then draw you a picture. Chip has a few and his artist comes up with exactly he wants every time. The talent that you will find in most tattoo shops is incredible, and each artist has a different talent, so call around to find someone that shares your vision for it.

I have no real suggestions for where to get it. I am a chicken and will never get one, but Chip has one on each arm (upper) and one in the center of his back. He said the under part of the arm was very painful but the back was not so bad.

Okay, in all seriousness, Tracy. I've heard from more than a few people that the place on Willy Street (Steve's?) next to Star Liquor is a good place to go. And, afterwards you can walk across the street to Jolly Bob's Jerk Joint...that works.

Good luck...hope it doesn't hurt too much. (I hate needles, so a tattoo is definitely not in my future.)

Well, I'm back and after reading all of your posts, I can see the opinions on both sides of "to get one or not" are very strong.

For me, getting a tattoo is a very personal thing and I am leaning towards getting it on my front lower hip. I don't care if anyone sees it, it is for me and I will share it when or if I feel like doing so.

I have thought about it for a while and think that now is the time and why not? A sea turtle represents alot to me, first of all, St. John, my favorite place in the world. They are also so calm and serene and you can float above them, just observing for as long as they allow. I will be looking further into what sort of picure of one I want. So, as Budman suggested, forward those to me if you'd like.

On a side note, did anyone watch "The Soup" this week? They showed a clip from a show called "A Shot at Love" with this woman in her bikini. She had a very interesting tattoo which we were able to see. It looked exactly like pubic hair coming up and out of the top of her bikini bottom. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. That's a tattoo I just don't understand. (I tried to find an online photo for you but was unsucessful!).

Well, I need to get out and run those 5 miles now.......

Happy Sunday!

Hi Pete:

I did PM Tracy about the topic. I told her where each of my tattoo's are and the pros/cons of getting them there. I was very honest with her about each location. Example....Back of the shoulder (very popular place for women) but it will show in anything but a sleeved shirt. This has it's issues when your trying to wear a strappy/strappless dress for a formal function.

I also informed her how each of those places felt to be tattooed.

Those were the two questions she specifically asked. The only reason I PM'd her was because I really didn't think everyone needed to know where each of my tattoo's were on my body (nor did they probably want to - hehehe).

Are you still on island? I hope your having a great time!!!

XOXO

I met a guy that had a tatoo of a rooster with a noose around it's neck.It was on his calf, right below his knee. He liked to tell people that he had a cock that hung below his knee.

Tracy, I just had one thought. It's your life and your body. If you want a tat girl, then go for it. You have to be happy with you, and if that makes you happy then that's that!

When I was 16, I use to want a tat. Back then, they weren't the norm. It was more for the sake of standing out and being different. Now I'm 39 and I'm glad I never got one. But I was 16. Now I'm a little older and hopefully a little wiser.

You are 40 years old and that's plenty old enough to make the committment to get inked. With all this said, I think you would be happy with your decision.

I love sea turtles. They are magical. Make sure to post a pic when and if the deed is a done deal! Good luck!!!

I have a customer at the bank who has lots of tattoos. She was really heavy then lost weight. Let me tell you that sundial on the inside of her forearm isn't pointing north anymore. So sad....

Tracy,

I have one on my lower inside hip, where you're thinking about. It is a design I drew myself, though I'm no artist I love it. I got the tattoo the day I picked out my wedding dress with my maid of honor and it is very special to me despite the stretch marks that now distort it. It hurt, of course, but was not particularly "killer". Hell, if you can do a triathalon you can probably sleep through a tattoo!!

Pete's right, Steve's is good. I hope to go back there again some day.

Like others have said, make sure you're positive about what you get and where you put it. I have another one, love the location, don't love the art. It's the right item, just not drawn the way I'd like.

Both are where nobody can see them unless I choose. That's because they're for me and nobody else. Like a sexy pair of undies, I know they're there and nobody else needs to until I decide they do.

Glad to hear back from you Tracy. Good luck and definately choose an artist that you're comfortable with and that comes recommended. Your choices are good for you and even sound good to me.

Hey maybe we sould have a "tarts w/ tats" meet at the Beach Bar someday?!!

Anyway, take care and keep up the good work
