OK now to be serious - never heard of lavender for scorpions - what would you do with it - wear it, put it around the house, put it around all the base boards - I really think you are panicking too much about them - they are quite small and again 99% of the people here have never seen one so don't worry (be happy  couldn't resist adding that )

The first thing I learned a million years ago when I first went to St. John was to shake out your shoes and check the bed for critters! Has stuck with me for all these years - never found a critter tho but sure have seen 'em! Best I can do is baking soda for ants and don't know nothin' about lavender.

Chickens eat scorpions so just bring a flock with you. Then you can have a big ole BBQ the day before you leave. :D

Scorpions

Post by Knolmom »

Stayed at Anole a few years ago and saw no scorpions or other critters, but did see "Marshmallo" the beautiful small cat that would only come halfway down the driveway to visit us every day. If you see her you will see how she got her name.
Sorry to tell Liamsaunt, we did have a tarantula scurry out of the bedroom closet at Cinnamon Tarn.
We never walk barefoot in a villa on St John, or on a patio there either.

We never saw a scorpion; a hairy, fat turantula, yes. A scorpion, no.

I'm much more afraid of jellies and urchins

I have not had the pleasure of scopions on StJ but I have been stung by one their Missouri cousins one morning when I put on my shoes in a hurry. Felt like a bee sting but I had no adverse reaction to it. It did scare the crap outta me when I pulled my shoe off and the bugger scampered off. I have learned to shake my shoes out when in their territory.

We are new to this site.
Toes, we also have experience with scorpions in the finished and carpeted basement of our new house. Hubby was getting luggage out of closet and got stung. Hurt pretty bad for about 10 min. then stopped. Didn't even leave a mark. Called poison control, they said usually striped scorpion doesn't cause a problem if you aren't allergic. Just to be safe he got tetanus shot update the next day. We see one or two each fall. I'm definitely going to buy some lavender oil to spray around down there. Most people in MO are shocked to hear we have scorpions here. We don't worry about ourselves, but we have G'kids and a 4 pound yorkie.
Gromit, the thought of it is worse than the sting! Just take a few precautions and then concentrate on having a wonderful time on St John.
