Re: The reason behind when you go to STJ
We usually go in June...its less crowded..and our birthdays are in June, we also met in June so its usually a kinda anniversary B'day trip. We have been in April and also in August, This year we pushed it back to November, hopefully the water wont be too cool and we can snorkel some..if not..then we will be content just lounging..

Re: The reason behind when you go to STJ
The first week of April is perfect for me. Michigan has long hard winters. Late March and early April likes to tease us with a small amount of pretty weather, then smack us back down with snow. By April, I have just had enough of that and gotta go where it's warm. I agree with the previous poster about the beauty of Michigan summers, and we normally stay in state for our summer vacations. My upcoming trip is in August. My youngest son (20) is deploying to Afghanistan in November, so I needed to fit it in before he left and when oldest son (21) announced he wanted to come with us I also had to fit it in before he headed back to college at the end of August. So August 8th it is. I am looking forward to having some of the fruit that's in season then, since it's not usually an option for us in April

Our first trip was the beginning of May this year. I chose it because the house I wanted had high season rates until May 1. Also I wanted less crowds and warm water. I tried to pick a month that wouldn't make my husband a grumpy mess because of high humidity. He Hates it! I didn't want to miss our pretty and short summer here in Michigan and also really preferred to avoid hurricanes. The water was honestly a bit chilly to me and I would consider going in the fall on another trip. We usually go to the gulf coast of Alabama to visit his fam in late April/ early May and the water is warmer there than on St. John in May. Maybe it was just cool this year I don't know (or maybe I'm just a baby!) Did a lot of snorkeling and we would def. plan trips around the clearer water too.

MN here as well (Savage)-- BRUTAL winters are certainly a nice to get away from Minnesota. I typically went late January with girlfriends we'd always tie in Martin Luther King was a free vacation day for me.... but I switched jobs and that is no more. Another main reason we chose January was because I could go down there, get warm all the way to my bones, take a deep breath and come home with enough breath to get through the rest of winter. This year, we will go in December with family and that was based around my daughter's wedding and her vacation. Plus, I'll get my deep breath in Grand Cayman in March. Hopefully, two winter trips should make for a nice short winter!!

We have a summer place in the white mountain area of New Hampshire so over the last few years we have gone to STJ the week before we open camp which is the 3rd week of April and the week after we close up camp which ideally is Halloween. BTW Halloween on STJ is a "blast".

Re: The reason behind when you go to STJ
We celebrate our anniversary on St. John, so late November is our STJ time. This year we're coming a month early (Halloween!) due to my husbands work schedule.
I think we'll always come on or near our anniversary. Maybe some day we'll start doing two trips per year! Then I can see how it is in the summer time!
