Re: "Sandy"
Unfortunately "Sandy" put the "kaboshes" to our trip, between American Airlines failing to give us a viable rescheduling option to the cleaning up of the aftermath, down trees, wires, high water etc. but we are safe and can always plan another trip. With all that being said, godspeed to all effected especially in New Jersey, New York and Ct. they certainly took the brunt of this storm and my prayers and warm wishes go out to all effected. I guess I will need to reconsider October travel seeing the last 2 years have certainly presented weather challenges.

Hey There,
Timo here from the Jersey shore and man we got our ass kicked!!. Just got power back from Sunday but, that is pale in comparison to my fellow Jerseyites. Where I live in the town of Barnegat, I'm a bit more than 1/2 miles from bay and it was at my doorstep during high tide. As our gov said yesterday, the shore of my youth is now gone. The people in my family and co-workers that live closer to the bay and ocean either lost their house or came real close. Went thru Cat 1 Hurricane Gilbert? in Mexico back in 1988 and this was worst. Heading to STJ on the 10th after 10 years away but, think my mind will be elsewere. DonnaM bummer w/ RU vs KS, how did your container make out?? Coolbreeze sorry on your departure/ vacation plans, that sucks!!!.

Well, we survived "Sandy" with just one tree down. Just got our electric back last night and still many without power all over our town. School has been off for 4 days and not sure if the kids will go back tomorrow - probably not. My husband is an electrician and has been running around all over. Many of his custormers he can not even get to their homes. I feel very lucky compared to the people at the Jersey Shore and other places that have lost thier homes. Now it is time start planning for our summer trip
I hope everyone else who has been affected will get back to "normal" soon.

Re: "Sandy"
Timo, the container was delayed! It sailed on the 30th instead so it should arrive safely on Sunday.
Our thoughts and prayers to everyone in NJ dealing with the devastation. We are still out of power but that is a minor problem compared to what they are facing.

My son-in-law is headed to NJ this weekend with his crews from Richmond VA. Power company. Help is coming but many had to get their state back together first. I posted a link on the off topic Sandy thread to a shocking video our local station in MD just showed to Anthony's town he has spoken of. So many areas are just as devastating to look at. Re: "Sandy"
Sandy has devastated the south shore of LI, where I have called home for several decades until my recent relocation three months ago. Fire Island is eroding into the Atlantic, and several people I know have lost their homes and businesses due to flooding, or have had parts of their home wash away. Boats and docks complete with coolers are now where train stations should be. Fires have ravaged neighborhoods. This will have long lasting consequences for my friends, neighbors, and family, and I am sad for them and have guilt for not having to endure this tragedy first hand. Surely maps will have to created to reflect the new shape of our island.

My heart goes out to all the 'forumites' that had to go through Sandy and the many that are now struggling through the ordeal of restoration and recovery. My prayers are with you all.
