Hi Karin
Thanks for posting the trip report and pics. How disappointing to have so much rain and then get sick too. That would be a difficult decision - get on a plane when you are really sick, or stay in Honduras and maybe have to go to a hospital there.

Seeing a seahorse is so cool, then getting an awesome picture of it is a bonus. We have never seen one in 20 years of snorkeling and diving. Also love the pics of the bat and the bird on the dock. Bill (if you remember my husband) is asking about what camera you use for underwater. We are going to get a new underwater camera, and he is still deciding what to get.

We were thinking about going to Roatan, because we had great dives in Guanaja (Honduras) many years ago. It was the clearest water with the healthiest and most abundant coral we have ever experienced. We would have 100 foot visibility every dive and see such wonderful things. Some of the reviews I read made it sound very buggy there. Although it can't be much worse than our last 2 trips to STJ, which were after a mosquito bloom. So we are undecided about a trip there.

Hope to see you in STJ or VG again some day.
:)

That's a trip you'll remember for all the wrong reasons. What an awful way to have to fly home.

I really loved your seahorse picture. Right now I'm asking myself if I actually ever knew they existed or if I always thought they were mythical. I'd have to say mythical as your photo is the first one I have ever seen. The colour was beautiful. I enjoyed all of your pics, even the rainy ones and I like the idea of staying right on the water like that.

Hi B&J!

Of course I remember both of you  . You can tell Bill that my camera is a Canon Powershot A720 IS with UW housing Canon DC-16. That model is discontinued, so if you are going to find one of those it has to be a used one. I'm very happy with my camera. I guess there are other models, hopefully as good, that replaced this one.

Bay islands (including Guanaja) has extremely healthy coral and huge sponges. Even with this bad visibility I could see that. I think if you go in the summer (or late spring maybe) the visibility would be much better. But we were also unusually unlucky with the weather.

We'll be on STJ and VG the last two weeks in April. Just come on down you too!

The seahorses are really beautiful. They could come in almost every color. I saw one black also, and yellow is common. What I don't know is if the same seahorse change colors.

I'm so happy that I managed to get a good photo of it. They are not that big and I was less than a foot away from it, so I was close. A memory for life!
